Chadian dialect?

Postby cHr0mChIk » 2015-07-04, 15:39

Does anyone here happen to know the Chadian dialect of Arabic? I think it's a pretty interesting one.

If so, can you translate, or at least transcribe a song for me? (I can read Arabic)

Thank you in advance. :D

I don't know Chadian Arabic but I can understand a little of this. The chorus is mostly intelligible: "I thank God, I thank my mom, I thank all of you..." Otherwise I get words here and there but not enough to transcribe or translate it, sorry.
Please correct my mistakes in any language.

Yes, I did understand the chorus. I'd transcribe it something like this:

أنا مشكورة لألله،
أنا مشكورة لأمي،
أنا أشكرك وانت.

Although it's probably not accurate. But in the rest of the song, I understand pretty much nothing... :)
Thank you, anyway :D

I think the transcription must be something more along the lines of انا مشكورة علی الله، انا مشکورة علی امي، انا نشکرکو انتو ... انتو کلّ شکراً or something like that. Actually مشكورة sounds more like نشکورة and I wonder if Chadian Arabic is similar to Hassaniyya in that the first person singular is not افعل but نفعل thus نشكر could be "I thank" in Chadian Arabic. That's clearly what's going on at the end of the chorus, انا نشکرکو انتو (in many Arabic dialects کو is used for the classical كم and انتو for انتم).

Yes, I definitely hear "ن" instead of "م" there.

I hope someone who knows this dialect replies and transcribes the whole thing. :)

That would be cool (now I'm interested, too) but I wouldn't count on it. There are hardly any active users here who are fluent in any kind of Arabic, even standard Arabic, and I've never come across Chadian Arabic speakers online anywhere. (That makes sense for a language with only about 1.1 million speakers, from a country where only 2.3% of the population has access to the Internet, and probably a similarly insignificant percentage knows English...)

My friend (who's from Saudi Arabia) and I have tried to transcribe it. And we've been able to do the portion of the first verse:

"اليوم أنا القدر سويته
... بينكو أنتوا اللي قريبين لي.
اليوم أنا اليوم جيتَ...
بينكو انتوا اللي حواليي."

"Today I made the pot(made a meal)...
I am with you,
who are close to me.
Today I came to you,
to you who are around me.
"

It might not be accurate, since neither of us knows Chadian...
But it's something... :D
