The sentence above may be terribly wrong because I have no idea how to express the present perfect continuous in Hebrew.

המשפט לעיל עלול להיות שגוי לגמרי כי אין לי מושג איך להביע עתיד מושלם מתמשך בעברית.

Mostly, you just use the present (like I did). It's easy when there are so few tenses 8-)

May I ask why did you translate "present perfect" as "עתיד מושלם" and not "הווה מושלם"?

בד"כ, אתה משתמש בהווה (כמוני). זה פשוט כשיש כל כך מעט זמנים.

אני מחזיק כמות סבירה של כסף בחשבון הנוכחי שלי - מספיק כדי לשמור אותו ביתרת זכות - אבל אני שם את הרוב בחשבון חסכון שבו אני מקבל ריבית גבוהה יותר.

Yes you may. I made a blunder

:goodjob: Except for the redundant -ה in הכל, no actual mistake! What I wrote in blue is just style issues - the Sun is usually referred to as feminine (but it can be masculine), בעצם is a more common translation for "essentially", and the adjective order better reproduces the emphasis in English.

Chinese writing uses thousands of characters, but the vast majority of them are in fact compounds of other characters, so the system isn't so insane after all.

הכתב סיני משתמש באלפי תווים, אבל רובם המכריע שלהם למעשה מחוברים מתווים אחרים, אז המערכת לא מואד משוגה במציות.

It took me ages to figure out how to translate "after all" in Hebrew, and I'm still not sure if I've done it right.

Funny, the end of this sentence actually translates literally into Hebrew quite well :)

אל תבין אותי לא נכון, ממש לא אכפת לי שאתה דומע כל-כך בכל פעם שמזכירים את השם שלה, אבל האשליה שלך לגבי לחזור להיות איתה, זה מה שהכי מעצבן אותי בעניין.

Your translation is 100% correct except that I can't be sure about the vowel marks... (well it should be vocalized שֶלָּנוּ but it's probably a typo). It would be better using תוך rather than בעוד, though, since the latter refers to an exact time while the former indicates time within, i.e. the bus can arrive earlier :)

Darn, I really don't have the energy to think up yet another sentence for translation, after doing it in the "Hebrew Translation Game for Beginners" thread.

Good to know! Thanks. :) Regarding the vocalization, I suppose it was a typo as well as "sin" instead of "shin" in the word חמש. Anyway, I would be really grateful, if you could just glance at the vowels when chekcing the translation. From now on, I will write Hebrew text only with vowel signs, even though it showed to be pretty arduous. Only that I won't mark dagesh forte anymore, unless it indicates explosive pronounciation of ב', פ', כ'

לַעֲזָאזֵל, מַמָשׁ אֵין לִי כּוֹחַ לְהַמְצִיא עוֹד מִשְׁפָּט אֶחָד לְתַרְגוּם, לְאַחַר שְׁעָשִׂיתִי כָּךְ בַּשִׁרְשׁוּר "Hebrew Translation Game for Beginners".

I am having a hard time with this Arabic course. New words seem to go in one ear and out the other. And when I want to say something, my mind goes a complete blank.

קשה לי עם קורס הערבית הזה. נדמה שמלים חדשות נכנסות באוזן אחת ויוצאות מהשנייה. וכשאני רוצה להגיד משהו, המוח שלי נעשה ריק לחלוטין.

I would have omitted the "אחד" in your translation, but it's not actually wrong. Otherwise the translation is 100% :waytogo:

So, I started studying some Old English. Many Modern English words do originate from it (although about 70% actually come from Latin via French), and I love word etymologies, so I guess this was unavoidable

Quite a task this one. :D By the way, I really don't know, if there is a corresponding verb for "originate" in Hebrew.

Congratulations. Not on the test. Most people emerge from suspension* terribly undernourished. I want to congratulate you on beating the odds and somehow managing to pack on a few pounds.

Hey, your sentences are quite long, too :P And I don't know a Hebrew verb either for "originate", so you paraphrased it using the noun, good work!
The clause "מקורן של הרבה מילים באנגלית מודרנית בה" is correct, just not very clear, took me a couple of moments to figure it out. I guess I would have replaced בה with בשפה הזו (this language) or even repeat באנגלית עתיקה.

Now to my translation:
כל הכבוד. לא על המבחן. רוב האנשים יוצאים משנת-הקפאה* בתת-תזונה נוראית. אני רוצה לברך אותך על כך שנגד כל הסיכויים הצלחת להעלות כמה קילוגרמים.
* My own phrasing, I don't know an official or even very common term for this. Thanks for explaining "suspension", I wouldn't have gotten it...

I forgot to mention that I also like complex grammars with noun declensions, as well as new scripts, and Old English was originally written with runes, so there.

שכחתי להזכיר שגם אני אוהב דקדוק מורכב עם הטיית שם העצם, בדיוק כמו כתבי יד חדשים, והאנגלית העתיקה נכתבה עם רונות אז הנה.

I'm new to this site and to be honest, I am quite surprised by the fact that there actually are a lot of people who want to learn it, which makes me happy because I love Hebrew a lot.
