Croatia in EU from 1st July

Postby Levo » 2013-06-03, 12:34

I wanted to open this topic only in July, but as discussions about EU-members started, I thought this is actual too.

First of all, I would like to welcome all Croats in the European Union. :) [flag]hr[/flag]
I am happy Croatia is joining! :) Maybe bad for them, but I am glad for it.

Couldn't help but laugh...

I feel very sorry for them... I find this decision like wanting to jump on board the titanic, but anyway welcome Croatia!

At least I hope they won't be so deranged as to join the monetary prison union.

Welcome to the club, Croatia. You will regret your choice.

As might the EU, if what I've read in the Austrian or Swiss press is correct.
Please correct my mistakes!

I think especially the EU will regret this.
Croatia seems to be in the same boat as Greece and Spain when it's about unemployment.. Unemployment rate is 22%, while it's 48% for youngsters.. I'm afraid for the emigration rates to Germany, The Netherlands, UK, Finland, Sweden and rising unemployment in these countries..

I understand you.
But note that Croatians have been emigrating for decades (since 1965 or how) and the total population is less than 4,5 million.
I welcome Croatians because they are neighbours, and they have a similar culture and socio-economcical standards as ours. Another member-state that represents "us" :)

I'm in Croatia right now. Got my passport stamped when I crossed the border from Hungary, and again from Slovenia. If I'd come two weeks later, there would be no such stamps in my passport.

I like getting passport stamps.

You'll still get stamps for a time being.

EU membership =/= Schengen membership.

No, he won't get stamps any more.

Once you're in the EU you don't need a passport.

If you're a EU citizen then you just have to show your identity card and you can pass.

I don't know how it works precisely but I've been to the UK three times which is not part of the Schengen area, but I didn't need my passport, my identity card sufficed and I got no stamp. The only difference was that they checked my ID, whilst in a country belonging to Schengen, they don't even do that.

If you're an EU citizen then they look at your identity card and you may go.

And if you're in the Schengen then you don't even need to stop.

I know that, but Croatia will remain outside the Schengen for a time being. So, you'll be stopped at the border point (land, air, and water) and since ling is not a EU citizen, he needs to present his passport and it could be still stamped anyways.

And I still need to carry my passport anyways since I doubt they will accept my healthcare card or driver's licence as ID.

Welcome Croatia! (Also welcome to the KHL too!)

I don't see any problem with migration from EU countries to EU countries. It's not really migration anymore anyway, since we're all one big family.

The UK needs ID cards. I'm sick of passports.

Hungarians have been able to go to Croatia with only showing an ID for years. It is the same now with Serbia. We have our own bilateral agreements

New? Croatia has been one of the most popular destinations among Swedish tourists for the past 10 years...

For us Romanians the favourite has been Bulgaria.

But from now on I think Hrvatska.
