Awesome. I will check the Memrise coure as soon as I can.

I have always had some interest in learning Chechen, but I don't know any Russian.. :( Luckily, I'm at least able to read the Cyrillic script.

I'm a fan of Northeast and Northwest Caucasian languages too!!

Here are some resources I've found, but they are not very useful to someone who wants to learn how to speak these languages:

Avar

I wish there were more resources in English for these languages. But at least it gives me extra motivation to learn Russian!

I'm learning Russian in order to learn these languages, particularly Avar.

However, also Russian is a very beautiful language!

Well, I'm not learning Russian just these languages. But yes, Russian is an awesome language in itself!

I've thought of doing that before but never went through with it. I might give it a go when I get some time to properly study Chechen.

What about a latinization of Chechen? I wonder if it has ever been proposed.

If I remember correctly it was proposed back in the 90's or early 2000's. I'll see if I can find a link.

Well, the only problem for me is that I don't speak Russian (nor I have the time to undertake its study too).. That's quite an obstacle.

In the official Cyrillic spelling, double/subsequent vowels mean that there is a glottal stop between them, e.g.:
кхаара = qa’ara as I spell it, [qʰɐʔər] ‘Wednesday’
ца хаьа = ca xä’a [t͡sʰə xæʔ] ‘doesn’t know’
еара = je’ara [jɛʔər] ‘Thursday’

I forgot about that.
Oh well.

Moving on, does anyone have any links to any texts in Chechen? Whether they are books, newspapers, or whatever?

http://www.radiomarsho.com/ Most of the texts have recordings, so you can practice the pronunciation 8-) Daala ättuo boila!

Are you Kist Chechen?
