This book looks promissing. And it seems to be much cheaper than the Dunwoody Press Kurmanji reader for those of us who live in Europe.

The encyclopedia is amazing! Only thing is that it's a bit difficult to read. Definitely worth the squinting though.

I've started to put together a memrise list made up from vocabulary lists. It's all open source so anyone can edit it. If anyone does use it, let me know how you find it.

Here's a site with a downloadable dictionary program, the biggest list is German-Kurdish, but there are a few other ones included such as English-Kurdish and French-Kurdish.

Hey, it's been a long time since I've posted anything on this forum, but I've found something which could be quite helpful and I don't think anyone's posted it already. It's a magazine written in Kurmanji (although not the dialect I know) both in Latin script and Arabic, you can also find an English translation from the 8th edition and there are some lessons based on the first few ones...although I'm not sure how helpful they are. Anyway, the point is that they're written by someone who learned Kurdish which makes them easier to read I think....although they seem to be a missionary or something like that, but when learning obscure languages sometimes these people are the best resource and you just have to ignore the religiousy stuff.

So here it is:

Great find. Their lessons seem to be really good.

Isn't it in Behdini ? I thought you were interested in the dialects spoken in Iraqi Kurdistan :)

Aha. Well I'm interested in learning Kurdish and I think Iraq is the only place I could go for a while, although going to Turkey could also be an option, not sure what the situation is like throughout Turkish Kurdistan, also I'd have to learn Turkish...which wouldn't be a bad thing....

Was looking it up and Behdini does show the masculine oblique ending -î all the time unlike other dialects and in spoken Behdini the third person singular ends in -ît which I find weird. Anyway, I've found this for Behdini dialect: http://behdini.com/

Any suggestions for a good Sorani dictionary?

I'd prefer a dictionary in book form if possible. I've found a few on Amazon, but they either deter me with the reviews, or have no reviews or "look inside" feature. So I'm a bit weary of buying any yet.

Well the Thackston grammar has a pretty extensive wordlist, he also recommends these two books:

http://www.amazon.com/Sharezoor-Kurdish-English-dictionary-Shafiq-Qazzaz/dp/B0000CR1Z2
http://www.amazon.co.uk/books/dp/091679864X (I linked amazon.co.uk because it has a review, it's cheaper on the US one though).

There's also a very good Sorani - French dictionary.

I was hoping for it to be in English (suppose I should have specified that :P ). Though I am trying to get my French back up to speed, so that has some potential. Thanks. :D

And if anyone else has any suggestions, feel free to post.

EDIT: Somehow I managed to miss your reply Set. Thanks.
You both have offered some great suggestions. I'll have to check them out.

So I kind of went and bought two Kurdish dictionaries. I went with the Sharezoor and Raman dictionaries. If you guy would like I can tell you guys what I think of them once I get them.

I will note it is hard to obtain the Sharezoor, as I ended up having to get it used from Amazon UK. The Raman dictionary (English -> Sorani) appears to still be available from a third party on Amazon UK.

Yeh a review would be great, I'm sure I'll have to get one soon.

What got you interested in Sorani dictionaries by the way? Are you learning it?
