Quechua Music

Postby Struthiomimus » 2011-05-04, 2:20

Other languages have music threads, so I'm creating one for Quechua where we can share songs in this awesome language! :)

Two I like are:

Wayanay - Alverjas Saruy

Damaris - Tusuy Kusun

Not music, but the Little Prince has been translated into Quechua and can be found here.

You really had to do that didn't you... The Little Prince is my favorite multilingual book. :P Now you're making me want to study Quechua. Too bad it's not in my favorite dialect group, Ecuadorian.

*Sunch'u is not exactly a sunflower but rather the flower of Viguiera lanceolata, a bright yellow flower in the same family as both sunflowers and daisies. Daisy-sized, sunflower-colored, and "sunflower" sounds so much better in the translated lyrics than "Viguiera lanceolata."

I think that this song could be helpful for those who are learning quechua, because is has a very simple lyrics (this song mixes Spanish and Quechua)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyCQcscWbeo

The lyrics that appears in the video aren't well written, it should be like this:

KUTIPUY
(Come back)

Buscame en tu soledad, mientras yo te pueda esperar
(Look for me in your loneliness, while I can wait for you)

Pero no vengas, si me vas a hacer sufrir
Pero no vuelvas, si te vas a marchar
(But don't come if you're going to make me suffer
But don't come back, if you're leaving)

Ama k'iriwaychu, mamita
Ama llakita apamuychu
(Don't hurt me mamita (mommy)
Don't bring sadness)

Ama k'iriwaychu, mamita
Ama llakita apamuychu
(Don't hurt me mamita (mommy)
Don't bring sadness)

Tus sentimientos (Your feelings)
Icha kutimunqa (Maybe come back)
Icha manapas (Maybe not)
Amaña waqaychu (Don't cry)

Mayta rinki, Ñausa urpi, (Whre are you going blind dove? (dove is used as an expression of affection)
Mayta rinki, Manan yachanichu. (Where are you going to? I don't know)

/Ama k'iriwaychu mamita
Ama llakita apamuychu/
(Don't hurt me mamita (mommy)
Don't bring sadness)

/Kutipuy, Kutipuy (Come back, come back)
Kutipuy mamita, ama k'iriwaychu/ (Come back mamita, don't hurt me)
