syntax exercise

Postby adventrue » 2011-04-18, 8:53

I bought a great book to learn Indonesian. However, it has good exercises, but not the keys... At the moment what i am grappling most with is syntax, so the following are syntactic exercises. I did my best. It would be really great if someone could correct the ones that are faulty !

Dia kemarin di mana main tenis?
Di daerah ini di mana hotel yang bagus?
Kamu kemarin pergi ke mana?
Nama kamu siapa?
Mereka pergi berapa jam naik pesawat ke Padang?
Dia dengan siapa main golf? or Dia main golf dengan siapa?
Berapa lama dari Bandung ke bandara naik mobil?
Dia telepon kamu hari ini.
Kamu kapan cuci mobil ini?
Rumah baru saya mahal.Saya kemarin tidak telepon dia.
Kota yang apa kamu sudah lihat di sumatra?

Apakah kamu mau belajar bahasa Indonesia dengan Pak Agus?
(is the meaning of this: 'is it that you want to learn Indonesian with Pak Agus?'?)

Kamu mau beli apa nggak?
(what does this mean?)

I cannot make out the following sentencea at all:
(tuan Larry) (apakah) (bicara) (kamu) (sama)
(mobil) (beli) (yang) (kamu) (bagaimana) (mau)
(these words have to be arranged to make a sentence...)

Kamu suka mobil yang mana?
(i am unsure what this means? "Where is the car that you like?", is that it?)

Hello adventrue.

Apakah kamu mau belajar bahasa Indonesia dengan Pak Agus?
(is the meaning of this: 'is it that you want to learn Indonesian with Pak Agus?'?)

No, its mean :
Do you want to learn Indonesian with Pak Agus?

Kamu mau beli apa nggak?
(what does this mean?)

its mean : what you want to buy?

I cannot make out the following sentencea at all:
(tuan Larry) (apakah) (bicara) (kamu) (sama)
(mobil) (beli) (yang) (kamu) (bagaimana) (mau)
(these words have to be arranged to make a sentence...)

1. Apakah Tuan Larry bicara sama kamu?
2. Kamu mau beli mobil yang bagaimana?

Kamu suka mobil yang mana?
(i am unsure what this means? "Where is the car that you like?", is that it?)

its mean :
Which car do you like?

My english is bad , sorry

I think all of them are acceptable in everyday conversation. But quite wrong in terms of words placement and affixation.
Usually Indonesian put the question words (like: di mana, ke mana, apa, berapa) in the beginning of the sentence or in the end. Not that your sentences are actually wrong but I think they are more common this way.
As for the verb, I think you should learn more about imbuhan. Cuci should be mencuci, telepon should be menelepon, etc.
