Would you eat?

Postby oulaliina » 2011-04-06, 18:41

So, the idea of this topic is to write some traditional food from your country and see, if the person below would eat it. The stranger the food the better!

I start with blood pancakes.

I used to eat food like that here when I was a kid, it's called blodplättar 'small blood pancakes'. (Another, more common, variety is blodpudding 'blood pudding'). Today I'm not forced to eat it anymore so I say

No thanks, but if it's the only food available I can eat it.

(I'm not a fan of lingonberries either, BTW.)

Would you, the person below me, eat...

Surströmming? (That is, fermented Baltic sea herring - eaten in the nrothern 2/3 of Sweden, i.e., north of Stockholm.)

(Used to be staple food, but today it's something you eat only once every year on a special day in late summer.)

BTW, this is how you open the can (preferrably it should be under water too), and this is how you traditionally eat the surströmming (i.e., on - or wrapped in - a thin bread with lots of other stuff too on it).

Sure, why not? I don't know why that bread looks like matzah though.

Sure, poutine looks pretty good, it kind of reminds me of a food from my neck of the woods, which I'm also going to use because it will sound really funny.

I was actually telling people yesterday what vile foods I wouldn't dare touch. Pig blood was mentioned.

I also will never touch Balut. Never ever. Not even if I was paid $1m.

Would you eat dinuguan (pig blood stew)?

I'm not exactly a big fan of eating organs. I would try it if I have to, otherwise I'll pass.

Maybe if I was allowed a whole day to eat it, with plenty of water next to me.

Maybe because it's really fattening? It looks relatively normal to me. :?

It looks pretty darn fattening. Best to avoid fatty foods. They make skinny jeans painful to wear.

Wearing skinny jeans is your first mistake, though.

Anyway, Draven, what about tiết canh? A friend of mine's family raised ducks, they made it one night and I was invited. So I ate it. It wasn't really my thing, but it had an interesting texture. I had hột vịt lộn with the same friend's family, and it, again, had an interesting texture but wasn't really my thing.

What about Rocky Mountain Oysters?

I've had them. They tasted great, not gunna lie.

You're one brave kid! I wouldn't touch that shit in a million years. :para:
Also, your friend's family is obviously Northern. (Please don't read that as "from the communist North"! Heaven forbid!)

Tiết canh can be made from dog blood as well. I hope they don't do that in America.

I'll eat pretty much anything :P

Ooh, also, my Cambodian friend's aunt is going to Cambodia, and they're getting together a bunch of tarantulas to bring back. Her mom's favorite thing in the world is tarantulas :D I'm going to pass on that.

YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!

Sorry, it's so French to me... But we love "la vache qui rit" cheese. And we eat croissants all the time compared to the rest of the country. :P

Dietary fat is not the prime cause contributing to weight/fat gain. In fact, with a sufficiently active lifestyle consuming considerable amounts of fat in place of carbohydrates will make you leaner.

But I digress. Balut indeed looks weird, but I'd love to try it one day.
