I don't speak English as my first language so it might be impossible for me to tell you what the song makes us feel through my bloody bad English but I guess my translation would help you to understand that. :)
I hope the others in this thread interpret this lyrics well and translate into English.

I've stepped on a cat,stepped on a,
after then the cat has scratched me.
it has scratched me,scratched me,
Because it was amazed!
hey bad kitty,cut your claws!
down from the roof, shave your whiskers!
It prentends to be sweet with its voice,
fawning me with its miaows
I'm so sorry,kitty,so sorry.
give me an apology for giving you fear.
Come here,kitty,come here!
come here and I'll give you (a piece of)dried bonito.
I did stepped on it,stepped on.
After stepped on it,it run away quickly.
it run away and so far away,
further away and finally above the sky.
it's now on a cozy crowd.
And it maws there again and again.
mews and mews, everything below are now far away.
Because it hooped on,hopped on.
Already hopped on so I can't see it.
Good bye-bye,kitty,good bye-bye.
Shall we see below tomorrow morning?

Regards
Seshi

Song translation, luckily I also have the lyrics:

downy - Delta

酸化するステレオから零れた(モれた)
英国の詩音が俺を操作(ジャック)している
繊弱を切り裂くプラスティックエレクトロG
人斬りの刃よりも鋭く!

轟音を眩暈と共にちぎっている。
ちぎっては炎屋で燃(モ)している
新しい渾名(アダナ)で泳いでくれ
下の名で呼んでくれ・・・

Thanks in advance!

good song but the lyrics is defficult to understand what it means :(

Escaped from an oxidized stereo,
A song from Britain is controlling me.
Plastic electro G slashes small sounds.
it's done better than a serial killer does!

tearing heavy sounds with dizziness,
I throw into a fire in burning house.
Let you swim with a new nickname.
Just call it with its first name.

What on the earth is "Plastic Electro G"?? :?

I've never heard 'Plastic electro G' before! But I guess 'G' is short for 'gangster'. I'm not sure about other parts of the world, but in England if someone is a 'G' it means they are really cool or good at what they do.

Thanks for the translation! :)

Hiya,

This is kind of silly, but I play World of Warcraft, and I'm trying to think of a good name for my new warlock. Since I just started taking Japanese, I was hoping to find a nice Japanese name for her :D but I'm having some trouble forming it with my limited Japanese knowledge.

What I'm going for is a one-word name meaning "purple chrysanthemum." I've found the characters 紫菊 and my best guess for pronouncing them would be "shikiku"? Regardless of whether there is such a thing, is this what you would say for a purple chrysanthemum variety? Can it be one word like that?

Thanks very much!
:D Please don't hesitate to correct my errors! :D

I think it would more likely be pronounced murasakikiku or murasakigiku.

Hiya!

There're 4 ways to read:

1.Shikiku
2.Shigiku
3.Murasakikiku
4.Murasakigiku

you can use one(or more) of them for a name, and No.4 is the best among them as a word of Japanese.

First of all with No.1 and No.2, Japanese speakers would not imagine "purple chrysanthemum" with them.Because we don't actually pronounce a "紫菊" in neither ways. But the combination of "紫" and "菊" has both "Shikiku" and "Shiguku" as just a reading way of these Chinese character. Therefore it's possible to use No.1 or No.2.

At the choise from No.1 and No.2, I recommend you to use No.2 "Shigiku" which sounds better so that a "K" on a head of a word often is changed into a "G" in a Japanese compound noun. So the pronounciation of No.2 is perfect as a way to pronounciation of it. It's like the flow of a brook. :D

As for No.3 and No.4, as Kasuya mentioned, the expressions are better then No.1 and No.2 as the words of Japanese. Because one of them is same with our way, when we seeing a "紫菊" somewhere, and there words moreover bring picture of "purple chrysanthemum" into our brain.

So coming to my conclusion, No.4 is the best way to pronounce a "紫菊" for No.3 has a "K" issue as I've written about above.

I hope my English is understandable and helps you to read a "紫菊".

i've never seen that before in my life. i think it's probably something close to "abnormal excitability of nerves"? somebody else might want to contribute something more accurate. ;)

Yes, this is the problem, you see. I myself can translate it to something (hopefully) adequate, but the actual medical term would of course be the best.

Abnormal Neuronal Excitability maybe? It gets thousands of hits on google anyway.

Thanks, even if I don't exactly have a way to determine that it somehow feels mighty close. Think I'll go with this version for now.

Wikipedia gives "dysautonomia" for a pathology called 自律神経失調症. It seems to include 神経異常興奮 in its symptoms.

Don't know if it helps.

wadoku.de (Japanese-German dictionary) gives "Erethismus" as the German medical term for 異常興奮. Maybe there is a similar word in English?

i'm pretty certain erethismus is erethism, or erethism mercurialis which is a symptom complex of mercury poisoning, according to all i can find by searching "erethismus".

It's in the movie The Last Samurai, the inscription on the katana.

Roughly 今古有神奉志士 means "(this sword is) protected by the Gods of both ancient and modern times" or "(I am the sword that) will bring harmony to both ancient and modern times". I am not a specialist though, and after doing a quick search, it happens to have a plurality of possible meanings.

I think you should try to PM Karavinka, he's the most knowledgeable member when it comes to Japanese probably.

I need a little help here, I am not sure if i am understanding the following sentence correctly
『源氏物語』を当時の発音で朗読されても、現代の日本人は、そのほとんどの方が、日本語とさえ思わないと思います。

"If you read Genji Monogatari with the pronunciation of the time it was written, a nowadays Japanese person ... won't even understand it is Japanese".
What does the "そのほとんどの方が" part means? Does it add anything important or the meaning is overly the same?
"If you like your clause structure, you can keep your clause structure"
Stable: Cypriot Greek (el-cy)Standard Modern Greek (el)English (en) Current: Standard German (de)
Legacy: France French (fr)Japanese (ja)Standard Turkish (tr)Elementary Finnish (fi)Netherlands Dutch (nl)

I believe it means "most of those people" (most modern Japanese people, 方 being pronounced kata). Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
