I'm back with a new request. The last six month the http://www.bompa.org has been gone through many changes. One of them is, I started to share the audio versions of the translations.

I guess the best known nickname for Japan in shqip is VENDI I LINDJES SË DIELLIT (please confirm if it's correct).
I'm trying to translate another one: "the land of the cherry blossom". Has anyone heard it by chance and if not, could please suggest a nice translation in the literary shqip?

I was perusing some stuff and found a site w/ materials for less commonly taught languages (seeing as how Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, which I've studied 2-3 years, and Turkish, currently studying, both fall under that category -- and Albanian DEFINITELY does) - i came across some materials, if anyone ever has the money to invest

That Language Defense course on there is pretty good, but too bad they don't have the sudio for it, although I guess once you've nailed the pronunciation and are used to hearing it, it would be really good.

Yes, but Albanian pronunciation isn't anything to be afraid of. There's nothing particularly odd about it
(normal toneless European stressed language). It's the orthography I'm terrified of.

Hello,

I am a photographer writing a book about my travels through the Muslim world. The title of the book will be "House of Peace" which is an English translation for the Arabic term dar es-salaam which is one way Arab Muslims refer to the Muslim world. I was wondering if the same term (house or abode of peace) is used by Albanian Muslims? If so, can you provide this in Albanian? If not, can you provide the words that are used to refer to the Muslim World and also their literal English translations?

I was just watching OMNI on television and there were these subtitles popping up over and over, so I took a picture. My first assumption was that this is Kaszubian, but the ç made me think otherwise. I'm fairly certain that it is an Indo-European language, as I was able to recognize a few words and the structure sort of reminded me of Slavic languages without being one. Not being able to categorize it and hearing something about Albania once or twice, I now am pretty sure it's Albanian.

Looks very much like Albanian to me. I think it's safe to say that it is, unless it's some Indo-Aryan language in Latin script.

I just recently started to learn Albanian (on my second week), so my knowledge in this beautiful language is very limited. But I got a question that I haven't find any good answers to, yet, with which I hope you'll be able to help me.

Are there any "special" greetings in Albanian for letters?
In English you often start with "Hello" (or perhaps "Dear", "Greetings") and in Swedish we start with "Hej [recipient]!" (or just "Hej!", both is actually very informal {at least in speech}, but it's still the normal way to start letters).
And then you end the letter with something like "Regards, [name]" in English or "Med Vänliga Hälsningar [name]" in Swedish (translates to "With kind regards", often shorted to MVH).

The start of the letter is often a normal greeting which is used i everyday communication ("Hello" or "Hej"). But the end of the letter is very specific to lettering (most of us don't say "Regards" etc, we say "bye" or "god day" etc).

So: Do I start a letter with "Tungjatjeta" (or perhaps "Mirëdita") and do I end it with "Mirupafshim" or are there any other greetings that is used instead?
I'm interested in both informal and more formal (the letter is to someone I met, but not a close friend, I'm also just curious).
