Need help with a translation

Postby Ferr84 » 2009-10-14, 18:54

Hello there, well I need a phrase which will be put in a silver coin, so that means it must be flawless, the sentence says...

"The one who knows to make friends, lives forever "

That's a translation from the original phrase I actually want to translate to latin, if anyone speaks spanish, the original is..

"Quien sabe hacer amigos, vive para siempre"

A friend of mine tried with this: but I'm not sure it's correct...

"Is, qui sciet amicitiam iungere, viverat in aeternum"

So, can anybody help me?? it is very urgent... and I'd really appreciate it...

Most people on this forum think that it is stupid to translate a phrase into a language you don't know and get it as a tattoo or whatnot because they think that this somehow makes the inevitably inane phrase more meaningful.

Anyway,
si Latine non loquaris, a fraudibus dolisque fellaris.
Most men are rather stupid, and most of those who are not stupid are, consequently, rather vain.

Well I'm very sorry to disturb you, I had the stupid idea that I could count on somebody who talked the language, for something I was asked for at work.

The thing is you obviously don't want there to be a mistake in the Latin but most of us here are just amateurs who are interested in the language and can't guarantee there won't be any mistakes. It really is something that you need to go to a professional for. I can tell you that KingHarvest's Latin phrase is not a translation of your phrase and "viverat" from your friend's translation is not right (it's not a Latin word in fact). But I have no idea how to say "make friends" in Latin so I at least can't offer any useful help.

Hehe yes I know he was mocking me... Ego inteligo... And it's alright, I really appreciate that you actually were nice and polite. :D I actually know a little bit, but not enough to write something right. I'll try to consult somebody... n_n
