danish music

Postby Æxylis » 2008-12-22, 5:47

I'm looking for bands that sing in danish
I don't really know of that many ways to search for bands that actually sing in danish rather than simply being from denmark, which doesn't necessarily imply that they also sing in danish

I would prefer metal or some type of rock, but pretty much any type of music would do

Nephew is a popular Danish rock band that sing in Danish and Danglish. Their lyrics are full of slang and cultural references so you might like that.

Magtens Korridorer is another popular rock band. One of their oldest songs is called "Hestevisen" and was a cult hit in Denmark a decade before the band itself got popular.

Rasmus Nøhr is a singer-songwriter who's very popular at the moment. Very down-to-earth kind of music about hash, bad weather, etc.

Most Danish hip-hop is in Danish, so you could check that out too. Malk De Kojin, Jokeren, L.O.C. are a few popular ones.

You should check out Faroese band The Dreams who are now singing in Danish. They're building quite a name for themselves there, since their lead singer, was chosen as the 3rd sexiest man alive in a Danish youth magazine.

Btw. The Dreams also were in the top 4 in MTV's The A-Cut a couple of years ago.
Gløgt er gestsins eyga. (Føroyskt orðafelli)
Wise is the stranger's eye. (Faroese saying)

Fluent: Faroese, Danish, English, German
Almost fluent: Norwegian, Swedish
Basic: Slovak (studying), Spanish
Have studied: Hebrew, Russian
Interests: Ukrainian, Romanian, Italian, Albanian, Armenian, Ossetic, Hungarian, Estonian, Baltic languages

And some of Sanne Salomosen's stuff (it's super easy to understand :P )

Also, I can't believe I haven't posted this Youtube channel on here yet:

They basically just make videos with lyrics to Danish music, although it seems to be mostly hit and miss whether I'll like it or not.

I know they don't actually sing in Danish, but I absolutely LOVE the Raveonettes. Their album Lust Lust Lust is pretty close to perfect.

If you're into rock, you could try listening to Red Warszawa. They might not sing as clearly as the other artists listed here, but they should give you an idea about how Copenhagerners talk :) But don't trust them to spell anything correctly. Also check out Magtens Korridorer.

There is also a semi-new group called Balstyrko. I don't know how to describe them, I think they are very unique - at least in Denmark. Many of my friends like them :) The male singer of the group, Blæs Bukki, is a rapper and also a part of Den Gale Pose, Malk de Koijn, and Bikstok Røgsystem. All rap, according to Wikipedia, except for Bikstok Røgsystem - they play dancehall reggae.

And then there's the rest - groups and singers I know, but I don't really listen to:
- Jokeren
- L.O.C. (Liam O'Connor)
- Suspekt (Warning! Dirty lyrics!)
- Bli Glad
- Thomas Helmig
- TV-2
- Nik & Jay
- Gasolin' (Including Kim Larsen)
- Gnags
- Dilemma Light
- Teknisk Uheld
- Østkyst Hustlers (Known for the world's longest rap, lasting 78 minutes and 53 seconds. It's one song split in 11 audio files on one album called 'Verdens længste rap' - what a surprise!)
- Anne Linnet

That's all I can remember for now :)

I almost forgot about Natasja! :) She sings in Danish and became very popular after she died a couple of years ago.

Ved I om nogen dansk harcore punk eller death metal musik? Jeg er "getting into :?: " sådan musik, og dansk er den eneste sprog som jeg kan forstå så godt som engelsk.
