Oral Broken Translation Game? (DONE!)

Postby Aleco » 2009-01-26, 14:55

Hi everyone! I had this idea that maybe this game could work orally as well.

Upload MP3 here
(Upload and choose the link for forums and "link to this page")

The administrator of the game finds a text, which *he then reads out loud into an MP3 file SLOWLY and CLEARLY. Then *he sends it to the next person in the chain. This person then tries to write down what he heard, translates the next into another language (written), which *he then reads out loud, and sends to the next translator (both written texts goes to me, the oral text is uploaded to Upload MP3 where the link is sent to both me and the next participant). The last person in the chain translates the text into English and sends it back to me for me to write down. Alternatively, the last person in the chain does not read anything out loud at all - only translates into English. Oh, and of course the golden rule of maximum five days per person counts here as well.

Understood? I'm just trying to see how many people perhaps would like to try this :) At the end, I post all written texts. and give the links of all the sound files.

The chain:
English (Aleco) ~ German (Trapy) ~ Esperanto (linguaholic) ~
Italian (ILuvEire) ~ Italian (Neqitan) ~ English (Dminor) ~ Irish (Supreemio) ~ French (Eoghan) ~ Spanish (bryonj2255) ~ German (loqu) ~ German (Twinkle) ~ Norwegian (Sean of the Dead) ~ Mandarin (Danial) ~ French (Neqitan) ~ Romanian (AndreiB) ~ English (Balaur)

In the hands of: Sean of the Dead (9/13)
Had the text since: June 3nd

That would be a lot harder! For me listening skills are the toughest part of learning a language. Nice idea though. :)

Exactly :) That's why I thought it could be a really great game to practise languages orally :) Of course, we would have to do languages we know we pronounce understandably.

We have at least three now including me. If we get above 5-6, perhaps we could give it a go? I don't expect a great response, but there should be some out there :)

I posted a link to what I use :)
Great loqu! :D

Oh, and of course, I won't choose a text with many difficult words since this is oral ;) So don't worry about that. However, the text shouldn't be read aloud by you in your own native language. This way, it actually helps you, when we correct major errors, if there are any, after the game's finished.
