I'll post all my questions about Korean in this thread, so that I won't pollute the forum with random little rookie questions.
1. Are ㅓand ㅗ always pronounced the same? I read on some pronunciation guide that ㅓ sounds like 'e', but to me it just sounds like 'o'.
2. About '둘', I think it should be pronounced like 'dul', but I often hear it pronounced like 'tul'.
Which is the correct pronunciation?
Thanks!
linguanima wrote:I think ㅓis pronounced with rounded lips, like the 'ar' in 'large' (BrE, London pronunciation ) or the Persian long 'a'. It's a more open 'o' whereas ㅗ is /o/ in IPA and sounds like the French 'eau'.
Doesn't 'd' sound like the unaspirated 't' in Italian/Spanish.. whatever and 't' the aspirated? That's my feeling though...

What Chinese characters do 친구 and 공부 correspond to?
I searched the Hanja list but didn't find any reasonable match. Are they Korean native words??

親舊 | 친구 | Friend
工夫 | 공부 | Study
Note that 工夫 is not KUNG FU.

lishaoxuan wrote:Oh, ok. I just have a tendency of wanting to know the hanja to every Korean word.
