I thought I'd start a thread here where we can all share music like in the Hindi/Urdu forum! I'll start off:

Great song Remy! In your honor, here's one of my favorite Afghan Persian songs, "Tanha Shodam" by Ahmad Zahir:

Thanks! That is a nice classic song :D

I came across an Iranian singer earlier this year called Mohsen Namjoo and I really liked this song by him:

Mohsen Namjoo - Ey Yar Yarom
http://www.imeem.com/people/r7FKa2e/mus ... yar_yarom/

He straddles a nice line between the classical music and the super poppy music that Iranians are bringing out these days!

Nasrat Parsa - Qataghani
http://www.imeem.com/people/r7FKa2e/mus ... qataghani/

A nice take on another classic song by Nasrat Parsa

It's good to have a music thread here. Unfortunately, we can't watch youtube videos here since it is forbidden. :( I don't know if there is a way to reach those songs on youtube.

I'd like to give you the link of a Persian song that I like very much, because it makes me feel I know Persian well. :) The words are so easy to understand.

We already had a thread for music. I'll later merge this thread to the old one. As for filters, we have the same problem in Iran. The solution is to use Firefox and install one of its addons called PhProxy. Then you can see whatever site you like. At least, it works well for me  Just keep in mind to occasionally update its server list. My problem is now with the low internet connection so, I can't use youtube, anyway 8)

Thank you Ali, for the solution.
I like Persian music. It sounds so natural to me, and I see people in my family also begin to sing some words with the singer after they hear the song a few times.
Here is another song I like listening; Baran, from Omid.

http://www.imeem.com/people/GCERkSO/mus ... mid_baran/

Besides bârân, I also like these songs of Omid:

http://www.umahal.com/song/1928.htm
http://www.umahal.com/song/4315.htm
http://www.umahal.com/song/4314.htm
http://www.umahal.com/song/4317.htm
http://www.umahal.com/song/4320.htm

Turkish: http://www.umahal.com/song/4321.htm. Omid has also another nice Turkish song but I couldn't find it here.

Kurdish: http://www.umahal.com/song/1477.htm

There are a few more but I hope you enjoy the ones I mentioned. Click on the "headphone" icon; a window opens having a Flash player; double click on the song name in the playlist and listen to the song. After you listened to the song you can find its mp3 in the cache of your browser :bounce: You may find that the quality is not so good. it's because they try to keep the size as small as possible. They have many many songs on their site.

:) Because it is really a nice song. And, it was a surprise for me to hear a Turkish song from Omid. The lyrics don’t belong to the song he sings on this link, though.

You are right, this site is a treasure of songs. It is great to have the lyrics of all songs on the site. I am listening to “Tekiegah” now and it is also a nice song.

I am recording the songs while I am listening to them. A free programme, Audacity, helps me record them. It is a small but nice programme.

You're right. I listened to it and it is actually that song of Omid I like 8) Can you write me its lyrics? I think the start is: Böylə güzəl sinki tayifədə

There are many Azeri songs because many Iranian singers are Azeri. Do you know Gugush? She has many beautiful songs. Here is her Azeri song ayriliq (duri). I'll later add more Azeri songs.

This kind of music is called Arabesk in Turkey. Here are the lyrics:

Böyle güzelsin ki tarif edemem
Herşeyi unuttum seni sevince
Ben böyle değildim ne oldu bana
Sanki yeni doğdum seni sevince

Ne dertlerim kaldı ne de çileler
Hepsinden kurtuldum bak birer birer
İnsan Allah’ından başka ne diler
Şimdi çok mutluyum seni sevince

Öyle güzelsin ki sözlerim yetmez
Herşeyi unuttum seni görünce
Ben böyle değildim ne oldu bana
Aşkınla var oldum seni görünce

Ne dertlerim kaldı ne de çileler
Hepsinden kurtuldum bak birer birer
İnsan Allah’ından başka ne diler
Şimdi çok mutluyum seni sevince

Yes, I know her. Her name, Gugush, is an Armenian name, I think. I like her song, "من آمده ام" The words are so nice.

Yes, "Googoosh" is actually an Armenian boy's name, but the singer is Iranian Azeri. I like her too; she was my dad's favorite singer growing up in Iran. :)

So intersting. I have found her biography and learned that her real name is Faika Ateşin and she adopted this name because when she was a child, they had an Armenian family as their neighbour and this family had a son with the name Googoosh. She liked this boy's name and got this name as her career name. She is so successful. Here is her biography :

Many thanks Nadi.

Has anybody ever listened to songs of traditional music? I begin with Eftexâri and these songs:

http://www.umahal.com/song/9026.htm (ey nâmat)
http://www.umahal.com/song/9025.htm (buye pirâhan)
http://www.umahal.com/song/9021.htm (dar havâye to)

I noticed the quality of the songs is not good. So, listen to the songs from his web site. Find the mentioned songs in the list and click on their name.

It was just a quick introduction. He has many beautiful songs. I'll later add more songs from Eftexâri and others.

The first three links seem to be different, I think umahal has been filtered again. But the other gives us very nice examples of Alireza Eftekhari's music. Yes, no doubt his music is great. I had one of his albums before, "Khorooshe Bahr". I find the songs I have listened up to now a bit melancholic but they are really touching and moving when you feel gloomy.

Here is another song I like listening, "to misli goli" from Said-i Pursaid. I got it from a film record of a concert. I hope I wrote the name of the singer correctly.

I can open it. Use PhProxy to break the filter. I always do so when it is filtered. It is interesting that imeem.com is not filtered there.

nadi wrote:I find the songs I have listened up to now a bit melancholic but they are really touching and moving when you feel gloomy.

Yes, most of sonnati music is so but there are also šâd (happy) songs.

nadi wrote:Here is another song I like listening, "to misli goli" from Said-i Pursaid.

"to mesle goli" was very popular at its time. You could hear it everywhere. Here it is in umahal. This pop album of Benjamin was also very popular: 85.

:) For me, they are brand new!
This sad song from Benjamin is so popular in my house now. The words were a bit difficult for me, but I found the translation.

I'm not sure if ghazal is popular in Iran or not, but here is a nice ghazal by Ustad Mahwash from her last album released in France, "Ghazals Afghans".

Mahwash - Dukhtar-e Bagh
