(Maybe you have another word for that in Irish.) What he obviously meant was geall(adh), and he got the syntax wrong, too.
Big danger if you ask for tattoo translations on the web or whatever, and can't verify with "real" native speakers... I'm always suprised in people's trust in the world :shock:

You are right it is risky to ask for translations over the internet, but i don't know any native speakers and this is what i want for my tattoo. I have to try something and trust me i'll double check. Besides i have lots of research to do before i actually get one seeing as how its permanent. Thank you all for you help.

Names don't often translate into Irish, unless they are biblical or Irish it self, I suggest to stick to the same name when your talking in Irish.

I agree. Williams is an English (or Welsh??) name so therefore it has no Irish translation.

Williams derives from the Welsh form: Gwilym, pronounced ɡuːɪlɪm (gwih-lihm).

What about MacUilliam, as in the MacWilliam burkes of Mayo?

The MacWilliam Burkes, were not scottish, they were a hiberno norman family that owned great swathes of both Mayo and Galway. Mac Uilliam Íochtarach owned Mayo and Mac Uilliam Uachtarach owned Galway. I think they were descended from the last earl of Ulster, William De Burgh.

William is a name of Germanic origin, the German version for example is Wilhelm.

Wouldn't it be easier to say "Watch for children" or "School zone" or something along those lines?
Is there a reason there are so many words?

It's not what's written on the sign... the sign is just the picture. The words are obviously from some website or book on the rules of the road and are explaining what the sign means

While I was working at the elemenary school before the holiday, we were so lucky that an Irishman came and told us about Ireland.
He taught us a sentence, which I think is wrong since I didn't get any response on google at all! :lol:
