Translation from Danish

Postby elxiquet » 2005-06-30, 14:37

Can someone translate this for me?

Hej Jacob...

Normalt skal man nu være VIP Medlem før at crewet træder til - men RENT UNDTAGELSESVIS ser jeg lige om jeg kan hjælpe dig .

Prøv at se om du kan finde en fil der hedder
swat4.ini i den mappe hvor du har SWAT4 installeret, normalt er det C:\Program Files\Sierra\SWAT 4\Content\System

Slet den ...det skulle afhjælpe problemet !

med venlig hilsen

Hans Jørgen

Hey, I will give you a general translation, since I only know Norwegian (but I understand most of this) and the instructions are clear.

Hi Jacob...

Normally one would be a VIP member now since the crew takes place? – but regardless I see a way I can help you.

Try to see if you can find a file that’s called swat4.ini on the map where you have SWAT4 installed. It’s normally C: :\Program Files\Sierra\SWAT 4\Content\System

Do that…it should help fix the problem!

friendly regards,

Hans Jørgen

Sorry, I don't know "træde til", but I think it normally means "take hold of" something, or "take the place of"...I guess it's game terminology you might already know. Hope that helps. :wink:

Could the opening sentence mean...

"Normally one would have to be a VIP member before the crew can go ahead" ?

And I didn't realize Danish used the word om for 'if'--> "Prøv at se om du kan finde...". I guess it just means "try to see about finding...".

Could a Dane , or a Danish speaker, help me understand the usage of the word slet? It means 'bad/evil', yes? But it seems to be used in other ways.
Perhaps slet is a conjugation of a verb which merely looks like the word for bad?

Does "slet ikke" = not bad?

Hej Ulven,
the essence is that the crew only starts acting, if you are a premium member, so the meaning comes through.
OM kan have the meaning if (German 'ob') ved du om han kommer.
The meaning you might think of, is in e.g. om onsdagen, on Wednesday, om aftenen - in the evening.

Slet means 'delete' and it is a generic computer term. Thus 'slet ikke' can have two menaings:
1. don't delete
2. not at all
'slet' as morally bad is hardly used nowadays.
I'm not Danish, but I hear this language every day and here are only few Danes - so I hope, I could give you the necessary answers.

I forgot: the infinitive is slette.

Could someone translate it into English?

O, du herlige Drik,
du som avled den Skik

(...)
at med Næven man slog
og var tapper og klog

I think it's Danish, but I'm not sure...

It is indeed:

O wonderful drink,
Thou who begot the custom
That people beat with their fists
And was brave and wise

This is a rather literal "translation".

Is definitely Danish, and none of the proposed translations quite make it (you get the message, though). My translation:
Hello, Jacob...
Normally one would have to be a VIP member before the crew will assist - but MAKING AN EXCEPTION I'll take a moment to see if I can help you.
Try to see if you can find a file named swat4.ini in the folder where you have SWAT4 installed. It’s normally C:\Program Files\Sierra\SWAT 4\Content\System
Erase it. That should fix the problem.

Regards
Hans Jørgen
More precise meaning of the highlighted words, as used in this text:
Skal = Must , have to
Træde til = step forward, enter into, make an effort
lige = shortly or momentarily.
hedder ... = is named ... .
mappe = folder (NOT map!)
slet = delete (imperative)
afhjælpe = remedy (verb)
