HAYA!!!

I need help for a translation I'm working at! How do you call the 25 cents coin in American? (I remember the dime and the nickel but I don't know if there's a special name for this coin too!)

A quarter. (easy to remember because it's a quarter of a dollar. ;))
Goals:
[flag=]es[/flag] ➜ C1 (DELE)
[flag=]de[/flag] ➜ B2 (Goethe-Zertifikat) / C1
[flag=]sv[/flag] ➜ B1/B2

Just a conplete list

0.01¢ - penny
0.05¢ - nickel
0.10¢ - dime
0.25¢ - quarter
0.50¢ - half-dollar
$1.00 - dollar

In case of Canada, they would call the $1.00 one as "loonie" because there is a loon (kind of a duck) on the coin. For $2.00 coin, "twoonie".

I vaguely recall hearing some time ago about a "mil" - presumably 1/10 of a cent. When was this ever in use?

I can only think of mil being possibly short for "million".

There's never been an actual coin called a "mil". It's used as a name for the amount $0.001 in financial calculations ("a 2-mil tax levy", for example).

The 2 euro cents coin sucks imho, if something costs 4 euro cents, give 5 cents and get one :D

I suppose it'd be the same in USD.

And if you want to buy something for 1 cent and have only a 5 cents coin - will you be happy with getting four 1 cent coins as a change? :-)

I don't mind a few pennies in my pocket, but when I have a handful, then I get annoyed and try to get rid of them. :wink:

In some European countries, the one and two cent coins are rarely used, like Finland for example.

What on earth costs 1, 2, 4 or 5 euro cents? :P

I do find coins annoying, as they make my wallet very thick, but on a few occasions they saved my skin (and yes, even those 2 cent coins. :P)

I guess the two euro cent coin is there to mirrow the 2 euro coin.

:lol: Do you also have prices ending in 95p? Those two (in cents and before that in Pfennig) are the most popular around here.
