It's from a LangMedia dialogue in (Iranian) Persian called "Weddings in Khuzestan." It's at the end of Azita's third-to-last line:
لباس های محلی می پوشیدن و دامن های قر دار و رنگی و این ها بدش

...they...wore folk dresses. There used to be pleated skirts and colorful ones...

The next Iranian song I'm trying to translate is variously known as "Mahtab" or "Labe Boomeh" and is by Davood Behboodi:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2cPq6Dc9tQ
Lyrics:

My translation (I suspect perhaps I don't have to keep saying "attempt" now especially considering that I finally managed to translate a whole song correctly :D):

It's already sunset; the sun is setting.
I'm lonely, and wine is forbidden without you.
A thousand unspoken words are on my lips.
A thousand secret sadnesses are in my throat.

My poor heart is in love with you.
The foot of (my) heart is in chains.
I can't go; it's already too late.

The moonlight in your eyes,
Pure wine on your lips,
You're finally killing me with
This "today or tomorrow" of yours.
Don't break (my) lovelorn heart!
You said you were more in love
Than me from the beginning.

Since that day that your love
Made a home in my heart,
Your two black eyes have
Been driving me crazy.
If you are my beloved,
I have no more sorrow
In this life of two days.

I think this may be a local word used in Khuzestani dialects. It's hard to find in dictionaries. Eventually I located it here with the meaning "pleated", mentioned as belonging to the Dezfuli dialect. (Dezful is a city in Khuzestan). However, it also seems to appear in the Ziarati dialect of Mazandarani (appears here with the same meaning), spoken on the opposite side of the country, and in a few pages in more or less standard Persian online, so maybe it is a Persian word after all.

Just one correction on your translation:
It's already sunset; the sun is setting. the sun is at the edge (لب) of the roof (بام = بوم)

After more than half a year, I've decided to come back to this thread because I think I have time to do that now and I've been finding myself randomly singing Persian songs to myself. So this time, I'm trying to translate the Afghan patriotic song "Sarzamen-i-Man" by Dawood Sarkhoush, which someone posted probably more than a decade ago:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVJ2ViX0N6w&eurl=
Lyrics (without repetition):

Translation:

I wandered without a nest.
I wandered (from) house to house.
Without you, I always wandered
Shoulder to shoulder with sadness.

My only love,
The indication of me (comes) from you. :?:
Without you, my poem
And song have no flavor.

My country,
You are so tired from oppression.
You are without a song and without a voice.
You are a patient without medicine.

Who has sung of your sadness?
Who has opened your path?
Who has trusted you?

My moon and stars
(Are) my path again.
I can't keep going
Everywhere without you.

Everyone who has broken
Your heart in their turn
Has, for their share of
Pleasure, stolen your treasure(s).

It's like the eye of this star. :?:
It's like a dusty plain.
It's like a bereaved heart.

vijayjohn wrote:The indication of me (comes) from you. :?:

I didn't completely get this line either. It could be something along the lines you suggested ("the [only] indication/sign of me is from you") but I think here نشانه is used in the sense of goal, aim, target, so something along the lines of "my [only] goal is you".

Who has trusted been faithful to you?

Everyone who has broken
Your heart in their turn
Has,for their share of
Pleasure, they have stolen your treasure(s).

Here که means کی .
از بهرِ means "for, because of" eg. از بهر چه؟ (why?) or از بهر خدا "for God's sake."

It's like the eye of this star. :?:

I think this line was actually مثل چشم انتظاره .

This time, I'm posting a song by Shahram Nazeri that you already posted once in the songs thread! It's his rendition of Rumi's ghazal "Ro Sar Beneh Beh Balin":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C4u6wxVHZ70
Lyrics: https://ganjoor.net/moulavi/shams/ghazalsh/sh2039/
Translation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q0OXUdC_3W0

I actually don't have a translation for the Afghan song this time, but I'm not going to translate it myself, either, so I decided to just post it here instead so I wouldn't have to make you struggle to decipher unfamiliar expressions in Dari or Tajik. :) This is "Maida Maida" by Hamdard Bashir:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CmKyGFL7EMw
Lyrics: https://www.afghansonglyrics.com/Artist ... a-Yar-Zeba

The entire DLIFLC's website has been down for a while lately, I suspect for reasons having to do with the current epidemic, which also means that GLOSS is down. I think I'll compensate for now by getting more words out of LangMedia.

Cool!

غبار - dusty dust ("dusty" would be غبار آلود)
سودا - passion (as well as 'trade')? Yes, they're homonyms and homophones. سودا meaning trade, originally Persian, and سوداء from Arabic meaning "blackness" (and by extension, passion, melancholy, etc.) Word-final hamza usually gets dropped in Persian, leaving us with سودا for both.
مطرح - relevant? famous? (and alive? In addition to propounded, on the carpet, under consideration. The context in this case is this sentence from LangMedia in Dari about modern Afghan female singers, written in the transcript as follows: ".در دوره فعلی کی هستن آواز خوان های زن که مطرح هستن. از کسایی که نو بر امدن" and translated into English as 'Who are the current famous singers, from the ones who have just started?') I confess I hadn't encountered it in this sense before - maybe a specifically Afghan usage? At least in Iranian Persian, it usually means "proposed" "intended" "sketched out/designed" etc.
محسوب شدن - to be considered? yes, usually as part of "to be considered as..." or "to be counted as..."
شرکت ذوب آهن - steel mill (because that's what happens there, i.e. melting iron) the شرکت part means "company"

Yep, I figure they decided that an "iron-melting company" is a steel mill. :)

The last song on the tape I got from our family friends is "Dokhtare Irooni" by Siavash Shams:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvPfrdYulmE
Lyrics:

Translation:

Iranian girl in harmony with me,
Eastern blood in my veins,
I fell in love with you, dearest beloved,
Iranian girl, Iranian girl.
Iranian girl, white and unpretentious,
An angel of honorable descent,

No one under this blue dome
Has been as kind to me as you!
I am acquainted with your black eyes,
Iranian girl faithful to me.
Iranian girl, my calamity,
My well-behaved beloved one,
My heart wants me to beat for you,
My good one, my God.

Iranian girl, my flesh and blood,
Flower of a tulip of the soil of my homeland,
Anywhere you are is my home.
The sun sets up a tent for us.

I knew that you are always kind.
I knew you want to stay in my heart.

I love you in your sadnesses.
They are all out of sincerity.
I love you every time I look at you.
It's like a graceful ghazal.

Thanks as always for your help and encouragement! :)

This is an Afghan song called "Firishta" written by a poet named Qahaar Assi and sung by Farhad Darya. (It so happens that Farhad Darya also sang a completely different song that is also called "Firishta"). The video is just a lyric video, so I've hidden the lyrics below this video in case it's distracting:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFU3keY1lLg
Lyrics:
► Show Spoiler

Translation:

The green gathering of the grass has ended.
My eyes are on the road, and I've stopped waiting.
Fall has arrived, and the sickle has cut down (stalks of) wheat.
O beloved, where are you (now) that spring has ended?

The angel was a memory; the angel was a dream.
The angel was a remembrance; the angel left.

O moon, if you saw my angel
Or if you smelled a trace of that flower of mine,
If you shone next to the place
That still has custody of your love...

May I cry like crazy sitting on your road!
May I cry a river, a river, tears of blood!
May I not find a trace of you from any traveler!
May I cry on Behistun, the Mountain of Love!

Far away from you, I remain foreign and forlorn.
I remain without any kith or kin or God.
O my mate, o darling, o my half,
If I stay separate (with) my dust on you...

Until you come and so that I remember (my) indebtedness
To make my heart happy (with?) some desires,
To cry over your colorful flowers of memories
In the winding alleyway of a garden...

eskandar wrote:[In the previous couplet, how are you understanding بر گو ? I'm not sure what to make of it]

I understood the couplet to mean:

اگر تابیدی به بغل به گو که هنوز امانت عشق تو را دارد

So 'on the place', I guess.

The Iranian song I'm using this time is this rendition of Hafez's ghazal "Goftam Gham-e-To Daram":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3n0BmpxlaEs
Lyrics and rhyming translation: https://www.hafizonlove.com/divan/05/231.htm

I'm also using a Tajik song called "Charkh-i-Falak," sung by Nigina Amonqulova, with no translation into English (I'm not attempting a translation because it has at least two words that I'm pretty sure are uniquely Tajik):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aHCnwkkAuUg&feature=fvwp&NR=1
Lyrics (I'm not sure these are entirely accurate tbh): https://lyricstranslate.com/en/nigina-a ... yrics.html

I also found this, which seems to be helping me decipher some of the Tajik words. I had already learned оча 'mom' from this.

GLOSS is back up, and although my laptop doesn't let me access it for some reason, my phone does! So all of this vocabulary is from the the two songs I tried translating, the two I posted here, Tutinama, and GLOSS (20 words/phrases in Dari and 20 in Iranian Persian), in that order:

غم تو دارم - I cry for you? yes basically; hard to express concisely in English but it means I'm distressed, melancholy, dejected, out of yearning for you
رهبر - guide? yes, or leader
کز - singeing no, here it's just a common poetic contraction of که از
شبت - dill just curious, did this come up in Afghan media? I didn't know this word, just knew شوید for dill
بی وقوف - ignorant very common in Hindi/Urdu!
جاری - current (as well as 'flowing' - kind of a neat semantic parallel with English here!) probably (originally) calqued straight from English in this sense
به طور مثال - for example? yep
ماکسی - long (in reference to dresses)? yes it's English "maxi" as in "maxi skirt" (long, opposite of mini skirt)
خانه یک خوابه - one-bedroom house? yes

هال و پذیرایی - living room? yes
بنگاه معاملاتی - real estate? real estate company (I think)

No, in "Charkhi Falak": در حولی بیگانه شبت میکارم.
بی وقوف - ignorant very common in Hindi/Urdu!

Yeah.

Our Iranian family friends had also given us another audiotape of songs that were all by Morteza. I haven't actually listened to the whole tape in probably dozens of years by now; this is the only song I remember hearing on that tape one time when I found it several years ago. It's called "Aman Aman":
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gm7mMAHzSO0
Lyrics:

Translation:

Don't go so quickly!
Why, you are my life
Leaving like this.
Stay behind for a moment!
Why, you are my soul;
You are such a vagrant.

It was you who spoke.
You told me a love story.
Your glance penetrated my faith.
It made me love you without settling down.
I burned; I was dumbfounded; I trembled.

Oh, mercy, mercy, you were my murderer!
You were the murderer of my careless heart!
I was a wanderer; you came by the road.
You led me astray; you robbed me on the highway.

I was destroyed by you, and my heart was torn.
I fell in love and became thirsty and sick,
And my body needed your body.
Dumbfounded and dumbstruck, I was trapped.

I used to confuse those words all the time, so I convinced my brain that that's what that word meant in that context and forgot that I was wrong.

This time, I'm trying to translate (the beginning of) an Afghan song called "Biya Ki Kabul Jan Burem" by Najim Nawabi (because that's the part I found video footage for and I can't really find the rest of the lyrics anyway):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSCpcYLrudI
Lyrics:

Translation:

It is wartime; o Ali, help us!
Help from anyone but you is shameful; o Ali, help us!
The work of two lives was done at a sign of yours.
What delay is there in our work? O Ali, help us!

Come on, let's go to dear Kabul!
Let's go; we have a hundred wishes!
Let's go drunk and singing ghazals!
Let's go to beloved Kabul!

I'm going from here to Kabul by foot.
I'm going; I have a vow I made to everyone.
I have a vow to see dear Kabul.
I'm going sightseeing freely.

I got that but didn't translate 'world' literally enough because I forgot that Abrahamic religions treat the afterlife as a world rather than a life.

The Iranian song I'm using this time is "Kharchanghaye Mordabi" by Habib (Mohebian), once posted in the Forum Song Contest:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXyCWJzonPY
Lyrics and translation: https://lyricstranslate.com/en/kharchan ... rdabi.html

And the non-Iranian song I'm using is "Har Shab Manam Fitada," a ghazal by Amir Khusro, as sung by Pakistani singer Ejaz Hussain Hazravi:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FNkhHBiJyJE
And I finally found the lyrics to the whole ghazal (with misspellings, but no matter since they are spelled correctly in the video and elsewhere, e.g. on ganjoor.net) with translations into Urdu and English! http://pathofmystics.com/poem-every-night/

One question about the last line in the lyrics (not the last line in the ghazal itself): The link has دستم نمی دهد که نهم سر به پای تو translated into Urdu as بس نہیں چلتا کہ تیرے پاؤں پر سر رکھ دوں and into English as 'I cannot control myself from sacrificing my head and leaving it at your feet'. I'm willing to believe the Urdu translation is correct, but isn't the English translation saying the opposite of the original and the Urdu translation? :hmm:

EDIT2: Changed the last word to something I haven't already listed before :P

Yeah, I think you're right.

نگه - look, glance (had to look this up to figure out whether it meant 'glance' or 'gaze') I would say it can definitely be either glance or gaze, depending on context. As you probably figured out, it's a poetic contraction of نگاه

خیال پرست - idealistic? yes
زلال - pure (water?) yes, pure/clear water

مث - colloquial form of مثل? yep
همین الان - now (soon?) means "right now" and, depending on context, could be "right away"
نقلی - (colloquially) small, cozy, compact, slim; (also) traditional, narrative, historical just in case you didn't know, the former meaning is "noqli" and the latter meaning is "naqli"
