That's a funny story. I guess it was probably Dari, I think Pashto would probably sound a bit more different to Kurdish languages because of all the retroflex consonants and such, but who knows.
Now you have to learn every other Iranian language, including Ossetian! I'm sorry, I don't make the rules. :
