There just seemed to be more cons than pros listed.

I mean, we are our own harshest critics. But also, I want to point out that there's more to my study of languages than just "he speaks so many languages!" or whatever. The shortcomings in my efforts to learn languages are underrated. That's why I'm particularly interested in pointing them out. People are often easily impressed, but the things that impress them are not necessarily all that impressive when you look into them really deeply.

Oh, don't worry Vijay. I know just how much of a fraud you really are.

So I did Turkish and moved on to Arabic. I intend to post in the study group thread, too, but I want to read the next part of the story about the lion and the ox first. Meanwhile, my Persian seems to be improving! (And/or I'm learning to be more careful about how I translate things ).

Now I've moved on from Arabic to Amharic, but I'm trying to also review what I learned earlier in Colloquial Amharic and then move on to Chapter 3.

You've clearly gone delusional, and are close to death.

So I've moved on to Chapter 3, and I'm trying to get through the thick layer of grammar. :P I should probably start creating vocabulary lists for Amharic next time I go through it, at least if I can get myself to remember to do that.

I finished reading Chapter 3 and moved on to Dinka. I intend to move on again to English shortly.

Also, I wanted to include a note about this word from the Njanga Ninga episode in Puthussery, Palakkad:
vijayjohn wrote:[ˈpaːsəm] - 'love', I guess. They say it means [ˈsneːhəm], which can mean 'love' but also just 'being nice'. I'm not sure what meaning they were going for here.

This is also the Tamil word for 'love'. Apparently, it comes from the Sanskrit word pāˊśa 'noose, snare, cord, fetter' (it means more or less the same in Tamil except that Tamil has also extended it to mean 'love', among other things).
