I read الارنب والفيلة . I was a bit confused about singular/plural nouns in the story. Confusingly, it turns out فيلة is the plural of فيل , exactly the opposite of collective/singular pairs like تمرة/تمر or نحلة/نحل .

So now I get to read all eight parts of الاسد والثور. Hoo boy!

I finished reading and listening to the first part, though.

I read الارنب والطائر والقط . I think the word أسمعمكا almost at the end of the story is a typo and should be أسمعكما .

I read and listened to part 2 of الأسد والثور (days ago when I actually wrote this post and saved it as a draft, sorry :P), but I'm confused by this sentence: و من عاش وكان من أهل الفضل والمال فإنّ عمره طويل وإنْ كان قصيراً. Does it mean something like 'Whoever lives and was among the rich and superior lives long even if their life was short'?"

Also, what does لا يسلم منها الا قليل mean? 'No one is safe from them except small ones'?

I read البوم والغربان parts 1 and 2. Looked up استراح من which means "to find rest from; to be delivered, saved from; to be relieved of" which I should have been able to guess!

That's my understanding.

Also, what does لا يسلم منها الا قليل mean? 'No one is safe from them except small ones'?

I think "No one is safe from them except for a few [people]."

I read البوم والغربان part 3. I never really understood the use of قد with the present tense, so since I encountered it here, I looked it up. It implies some possibility/doubt; here قد نستفيد منه would be "perhaps we can benefit from him."

I'm not sure I got the point of the line about the rat who, given the choice between the sun, the wind, etc., chose a(nother) rat. Maybe the idea is that, like that rat, the raven is making a bad choice?

I have no idea what بيوم in في بيوم البوم could mean, and couldn't find it in any dictionaries. I wonder if there's a typo there.

I read القرد والغيلم part 2. Looked up تغلغل (to plunge, become immersed, submerge).

I also read ابن آوی والاسد والحمار and looked up تحمس (to get excited, worked up, enthusiastic).

The latter story also shows the original in classical Arabic rather than MSA. I hadn't noticed if the same was provided for other stories, but I decided to read this one as well. It wasn't too difficult at all! I really enjoyed reading this one because the language felt authentic, not so simplistic. I looked up جرب (mange, mangy), سباع (plural of سبع "lion, predatory animal"), دلف (to toddle, walk with short steps), ما لي حيلة لـ (I am in no position to..., I have no possibility to...), كد (to work hard), خصيب (fertile) ... before I got tired of looking up each new word and decided to just read the rest without using a dictionary.

I finally read الأسد والثور part 3. :P It didn't take me too long, though. I think with this (long) story, I've gotten to a point where I don't feel like I need to look up all that many words (as opposed to the other stories where I was looking up practically every word...).

I read الاسد وابن آوی part 3, as well as باب اللبؤة والاسوار والشغبر . In the latter story I was very confused about the word إسوار . The book defines it as الصياد الماهر (skilled hunter). However, I couldn't find it in any other dictionary or anywhere else online. Finally I was able to find that it's derived from this Middle Persian term.
