Grammatically correct, but it sounds off. I think I’d remove the pronoun, so Chce pójść dziś wieczorem. But that still sounds off without a context. In a context, your version might well work. :)

This is perfect Polish, but it’d be more idiomatic to use habitual form here: Ostatnio ciągle bywasz spóźniony. But anyway, a lot of Poles would actually say jesteś here, so it is totally fine as it is.

vijayjohn wrote:1. I'm too busy to go (out) to the concert. (They say 'tired' instead of 'busy' in English, but it says zajęty in Polish (i.e. busy), not zmęczony, so I think they're wrong).

Yup, zajęty definitely doesn’t mean ‘tired’… It’s ‘busy’ or ‘(pre)occupied’.

vijayjohn wrote:8. Czy jest pan pan jest starszy niż ona?

Both word orders work for me, actually. Czy pan jest… perhaps is a bit more natural, but I feel nothing wrong about czy jest pan… either. I would say starszy od niej rather than starszy niż ona though.

Dzisiaj wieczorem muszę się uczyć.

Yes. But they might have slightly different connotations. Eg. już jestem umówiony topicalizes już, so it’s a bit more ‘there’s plenty time left, nonetheless I managed to be already appointed/engaged’ rather than ‘sorry, you’re late, I am already appointed/engaged’, but it can work in both situations. Muszę się uczyć dziś wieczorem suggests that in my general need to learn I have to be learning especially today evening, while dzisiaj wieczorem muszę się uczyć sounds like typically I do stuff in the evenings but this evening I have to learn.

To be fair, it was really just a weird answer I wrote to the question Czy twoja siostra już jest umówiona? Dlaczego? because I don't have a sister and I have an unfortunate habit of writing bizarre answers to open-ended questions I don't really know how to answer.

EDIT: You know what, let me try again...
Tak, ona już jest umówiona. Idzie na zakupy.

Oh OK, interesting! I used jesteś because they haven't taught the habitual forms yet, and this is the form they use in the textbook. It's in a somewhat different context, though:

"Czy już jesteś gotowy/a do wyjścia?"
"Dokąd?"
"Na koncert, oczywiście."
"Wiesz, jestem zbyt zmęczony/a, żeby pójść dzisiaj na koncert."
"Ostatnio ciągle jesteś zmęczony/a."
Both word orders work for me, actually. Czy pan jest… perhaps is a bit more natural, but I feel nothing wrong about czy jest pan… either. I would say starszy od niej rather than starszy niż ona though.

Okay, thanks! (Od is something else they haven't really taught yet, although they've promised they will teach it later :P).

That all makes sense. Thanks again! :)

mam za dużo dług.

I'm going to attempt a few more corrections. If I get them wrong, hopefully, I'll learn something, too! :P

10. Czy twoja siostra już jest umówiona? Dlaczego? - Tak. Jest bardzo zajęta! Jest nauczycielka!

Yup, that's what I meant. Not sure about the case dług should be in though.

Dzięki for the other corrections!

This does’t make sense, you wrote: ‘What are you ready for? - No, I am not ready! I have to work still!’ – the response doesn’t answer the question. And muszę (or: mam) jeszcze pracować would sound more natural.

Yup, that's what I meant. Not sure about the case dług should be in though.

After dużo it should be the partitive genitive (dużo chłopców, dużo masła, dużo dziewczyn, dużo krów, dużo wody, dużo piasku… like English ‘a lot of boys, a lot of butter, a lot of girls, a lot of cows, a lot of water, a lot of sand…’). You could also say mam duże długi ‘I have big debts’. In the general meaning you would use plural, singular is used mostly for a particular definite debt – muszę spłacić dług ‘I need to pay the debt / my debt’.

4. Kto już jest umówiony?!? Oczywiście, ja! Jestem bardzo szczęśliwa. - Who is also already busy appointed/engaged!?! Of course I am! I am very happy.
5. Może w poniedziałek, może w sotobę będę wolna. - Maybe I will be free on Monday; maybe Saturday.

The first correction is right – *jest idzie doesn’t make sense in Polish, it’s just idzie, as for the second part: ta nauczycielka jest niezbyt szczęśliwa (with niezbyt written as one word) would be OK, in the meaning ‘this teacher is not too happy, not overly happy, not really happy’.

I completed everything but the two scenarios yesterday, so moving on to Unit 5 (first half)!
I might try to still go over the last part of packet 5, but no sense in staying stagnate for any longer.

EDIT: Just updated the first post with this week's goal.

I was trying to guess what the third person form of the verb was, as it's not in either book (well, at least not in that lesson/unit).

I think those sentences would still be grammatical, they'd just have future meaning. Spóźni się is the perfective (dokonany) form.

ndk. spóźniać się (spóźniam, spóźniają się)
dk. spóźnić się (spóźnię, spóźnią się)

Yeah, it's grammatical, just not what they wanted in the answer key because they haven't taught perfective verbs yet lol.

This is why I ended up using the Polish Wiktionary. :P
