I think I just usually prefer studying languages through English because it's easier to find materials for doing that than it is to find materials for learning it monolingually with a dictionary or whatever.
You don't need to apologize to me! Like I said elsewhere, I have plenty on my linguistic plate already. Everybody runs into times when they can't dedicate a lot of time to studying, and that's exactly the time when I can try to get caught up on things I've been unable to do for a long time, like (in this case) Portuguese, the Biblical Hebrew lessons Ser did, and the stories in Kalila wa Dimna that eskandar and voron have already read but I haven't.
