The problem with this is that it takes me a long time just to read one book, let alone the same book in multiple languages, and I've never actually had enough discipline to do something like that effectively.

So, you don't think I should learn Sorbian through German textbooks?

Or Irish?

I think I just usually prefer studying languages through English because it's easier to find materials for doing that than it is to find materials for learning it monolingually with a dictionary or whatever.

Which is probably because of the weird ass languages you're interested in. :P

You don't need to apologize to me! Like I said elsewhere, I have plenty on my linguistic plate already. :P Everybody runs into times when they can't dedicate a lot of time to studying, and that's exactly the time when I can try to get caught up on things I've been unable to do for a long time, like (in this case) Portuguese, the Biblical Hebrew lessons Ser did, and the stories in Kalila wa Dimna that eskandar and voron have already read but I haven't.

But! But! Polish, Irish (and German) are your top priorities!

I mean, you can try if you like, but it's an uphill battle. How fast and/or often do you read shit? I take forever.

Yeah, kind of. Like yours are any less weird.

Repeat this as a mantra to yourself. ;)

Okay, I have to admit, there are some cases where the best resource I've found so far for learning a given language has been a language other than English. In particular, the best resource (or at least the most useful one IMO) I've managed to find and use for (any variety of) Quechua so far is in Spanish (EDIT: same for Yucatec Maya, I think), and the best resources I know of for Northern Frisian and Plattdeutsch are in (Standard) German. I think the best one I know of for both Western Frisian and Eastern Frisian may be in Dutch. My studies of Oirata and Teiwa also frequently lead me to look for or at resources in Indonesian.

Radio Bremen and Friesisch für Anfänger, respectively (they at least used to be both available for free online with audio)

I'll have to look around for the Frisian stuff. I remember the Radio website.

In the meantime, when shall we start some Obersorbisch?

You've already done some German and Polish? I thought you said you weren't going to do anything in any language until next week.

But sure, if you have.

I said "next week" a day or two ago, as in today through Sunday.

So when you apologized for not getting back into languages "until next week," you meant "within two days"? Gee, I'm so upset!
