Black Friday deals for language resources

Postby Car » 2018-11-19, 12:00

Benny Lewis offers lots of Black Friday deals for language resources. I wonder if anyone has used any of those services?

As I've mentioned before, I've been using LingQ for some time (over a year already) and it's definitely good, but has its flaws and the offer is for one language only (and is not limited to Black Friday at all).
Please correct my mistakes!

Yikes. When someone is offering a 95% discount on something you know for sure the product is a rip-off.

Sure, doesn't mean it can't be of any use.

Not Black Friday any more, but the Pod101 service keeps on spamming me with this stuff, constantly extending the deadline, it seems:
https://www.italianpod101.com/holiday/?offer=5

They should have the same on their countless other sites. Honestly, considering how often they send you deals, reminders of deals, extensions etc., it really doesn't give a good impression (not that my impression during the free trial was that great). They do have a lot of languages, so maybe some of you are interested in it?

Feel free to delete this post if it's too off-topic, but that reminds me of this certain company that makes stuff for electronic music production that's infamous for spamming their customers with emails at least once a week. The emails can get pretty weird, and I've heard that even unsubscribing from their mailing list won't stop them from coming but I'm not sure if that's true since I don't mind them personally. There's also a literal spam-and-scam "music promotion company" that sends really weird emails that definitely won't stop even after supposedly unsubscribing, which I'm sure are still making a lot of money off of people who respond.

I'll never understand why companies do that, regardless of what kind of a company it is, but with language lessons it seems even stranger because I doubt the main target audience is language nerds who want to get truly fluent in several languages but rather tourists who're planning to go on a holiday somewhere and say a few sentences in the local language. Wouldn't it just put people off from wanting to learn the language in question if they're constantly pressured about how they have ONLY ONE WEEK LEFT or something like that?

But well, personally I'd never pay for any lessons on anything or random stuff I don't even want or whatever so it doesn't affect me. Just weirded out by how common this type of advertisement tactics seem to be among all kinds of different companies.
