Ludic (lüüdikiel’)

Postby Linguaphile » 2018-03-24, 23:55

Ludic is spoken near Lake Onega in the Russian part of Karelia and shares some features with both Livvi Karelian (Olonets) and Veps.
It is sometimes considered a dialect of Karelian. Its names include Ludic, Ludian, Ludic Karelian, and in the language itself it is called lüüdikiel’ or lüüdi (also spelled lyydi). It has several dialects including Kuujärv (Kuďäŕv) and Munjärv. The information posted here is in the Kuujärv (Kuďäŕv) dialect unless otherwise specified.

Here's another video in Ludic.
The two women are discussing their baking, and comparing what people do today to what was done in the past. In the city people have to buy baked goods, but in the village people were able to bake whatever they wanted. When you wanted something, you just made it. Now even in the villages not everyone bakes, but older people still know how. Cold well water is given to guests, although now they have plumbing. Melted snow goes into the well. Then they discuss the baking, they need to add milk, egg, flour, salt and they discuss where to find the right pans in the kitchen. Walking back and forth to get the pans and ingredients, the woman mentions that feet get sore from standing.
