and it made me wanderlust for Lycian a bit.

Interestingly, I don't get captivated at all by Ottoman and the Ottoman history of Turkey, but the old Anatolian civilizations and their languages (Hittite, Luwian etc) seem very attractive. It's a shame I didn't visit the Anatolian civilizations museum in Ankara when I went there to take my Turkish exam. They have a lot of exhibits with inscriptions in these languages.

Aren't the old Anatolian civilizations more unique to Anatolia? Whereas the Ottomans seem to have been heavily influenced by Persian(ate) culture.

The Anatolian culture and languages, especially Hittite, completely fascinate me. On Academia.edu, for a little while I was even perusing / skimming through papers related to Hittite, the Anatolian languages, and their relation to Proto Indo-European.

Hittite is sooo overrated. Hattian and the Hurro-Urartian languages are where it's at.



EDIT: Hattian and the Hurro-Urartian Languages almost sounds like the name of a rock band.

Good luck, you kinda need to know some Akkadian and Sumerian to read Hittite, with their Sumerograms and Akkadograms.

Lycian should be more accessible in that sense though, if you could find sufficient materials.

Probably the occasional Slavic/Baltic/North Germanic thing, I'm guessing because of knowing barely anything about those. But I have no idea what to do, what to read, and what I'd like out of all of that.

I don't count anything Uralic as wanderlust anymore

Are you learning Finnish now? Or were you doing that before and I just forgot?

I know barely anything about Baltic myself, but probably the one North Germanic language I'm most familiar with is Swedish because of TY Swedish, which I happened to buy once. The first Slavic language I studied was Russian, which of course is also the one with the most speakers. The only other Slavic language I've seriously studied so far is Serbo-Croatian (because my cousin got married in Croatia to a Croatian whose parents were apparently monolingual in Croatian and I went for the wedding).

I've already been called a spy a number of times (and once by the police) because of my ability to speak Turkish, Kurmanji and Syrian Arabic; I guess adding Pashto to the list would only make it worse.

Romanian is an interesting one for Romance speakers because it's the odd one out, so that makes some sense. I was wanderlusting for it a bit when I first discovered the "LearnRomanian WithNico" channel on YT.
I wonder what got you interested in Hungarian though...?
