No, it should be written in rōmaji.

C'mon Indonesian and Vietnamese are doing fine with the Roman alphabet, I'm sure Japanese will like it too.

You think Vietnamese is doing fine? FFS, they have diacritics than go on top of other diacritics.

I would hate Japanese so bad if it was written in rōmaji.

Shush! It's a minor side effect. :P

Because not everything in Japanese is a loanword from Chinese.

No, I mean using kanji and either hiragana or katakana, but not both hiragana and katakana. What speaks against that?
Please correct my mistakes!

Nah, if anything they should create a third syllabary.

Why not also get rid of the capital and lower case distinction in Roman alphabets?

Anyways. Japanese writing system is complex, but it's not the biggest problem of learning the language. The bigger problem is making excuses to avoid them and pretending as if it's a bigger problem than it really is. It's like saying "I love you so much and I would definitely marry you if you weren't so fat, so no."

As usual for me, I read this as to iu ka, kore gèrén sure na no ni zátán sure huà shite shimatta na...

いいでしょうね。 これはこんなスレの習俗なんですよ。 Did that make any sense? And yes, of course I had to look up how 習俗 was pronounced in Japanese...

You might, although I think studies have shown that it makes reading easier.

Well, that's subjective. Not everyone is good at learning new scripts. For me, that was a big problem when I was learning Japanese in the past.

I'm not bad at learning new scripts, but that was definitely a problem with learning Japanese for me for a long time. It took me years to learn hiragana and katakana. Now I'm having the same problem with the Amharic syllabary.

Huh, I'm surprised Vijay. I would have pegged you as someone who would learn a script relatively easily.

I think it took my a week to learn Hiragana well. I still have trouble with katakana, but I could get that up to the same level of I tried. :P

Yeah, I'm actually a much slower learner than you'd think, at least sometimes and in some ways! When it comes to writing systems and stuff, I think I have at least a strong preference to see those things in context. For instance, I remember I used to have a lot of trouble remembering that み was specifically pronounced mi. I could clearly see that it resembled the Devanagari character म ma, but that of course has a different vowel from mi. But if I saw み often enough when trying to read text in Japanese, then eventually, I could recognize its pronunciation just from having seen it so many times.

A last change before actually starting the TAC: I've decided I'm gonna start from German instead of Dutch (and I'm also more and more sure that the chances of me doing Japanese are quite slim, but well... we'll see in 8 months).

LOL, who do you think I am? A serious person who respects schedules? :P

But in all seriousness, my motivation to learn any language has basically disappeared for a while. Even when I created this TAC, it wasn't really that high tbh, but I still thought I could bring myself to do something language-wise, turns out that I can't. I had already said something about this here.

The only thing that maybe I could see myself doing in the short term is brush off and try to expand my knowledge of a few Romance languages, because those are the only languages that I can learn without having to go through grammar books.
