I liked "The Circle" well enough, but it felt muddled, as if there were good ideas hiding beneath the surface and in the dark corners, but the movie didn't quite know how to bring them all out and fit them together. It also wasn't always clear which direction Emma Watson's character was going, not in itself a bad thing, but when I ultimately answered that question, I still didn't know why she did what she did.

Turbo. I bought a special edition with a bunch of languages, but I need to buy a blu ray player first. So far I have watched it in English and European Portuguese and I think it's so cool. Finally I can mix the two things I love the most. Movies and languages. :)

My mom likes watching movies every now and then on her iPad, so I told her about a Malayalam movie called Pavam Pavam Rajakumaran (1990), and we just finished watching it together. :) There are only two songs in it (it's two hours long, which is short for an Indian movie :P), but both of us knew it long before we saw the movie. It's a good movie. It's available with subtitles in Modern Standard Arabic and English, like lots of other movies in Malayalam.

Arrival. I liked, but it's no perfect, I dislike movies with precognition.

It's not precognition. It's experiencing all moments in your life simultaneously. :P But anyway, I do agree with you, though my problem with that plot point came from the linguistic angle. That being said, the movie had won me over long before it became clear what was happening; it had earned a bit of credulity by then.

Lion, Australian movie about Indian boy lost in Calcutta that got adopted by Nicole Kidman.

The first part was good, but the second one they didn't know how to fill the movie's time.

That's exactly how I feel about Don Quixote.

I think what's called the second part of Quixote in today's editions was originally a sequel published ten years after the original.

Don Quixote doesn't have much of a plot throughout the whole story. It's just a bunch of random shit that happens, in the picaresque tradition.

I never saw any of the Terminator movies...or probably any other American movie you can think of, for that matter, unless maybe it was something from Disney.

When people said it the first modern novel, I thought it was the opposite, the first one to have a book-wide plot.

Okay. I've only seen Slumdog Millionaire, Bride and the Prejudice and Bend it like Beckham. I believe all the Bollywood movies take 5 hours. ;)

Wait. I also knew this website where you could sub Bollywood movie excerpts. That was pretty cool.

Bar Bahar (I copy the resume): "Three Palestinian women living in an apartment in Tel Aviv try to find a balance between traditional and modern culture."

I've only seen the last two of those. I hate Bride and Prejudice. I hate most Bollywood movies, too.
I believe all the (better without "the") Bollywood movies take 5 hours. ;)

That was true before independence and probably in the 50s. I'm not sure when that trend changed, but now they're two or three on average. There are some very short Indian movies, too, though. Some of them are really good.

"Resume" in American English means a CV. It's not used in other varieties of English AFAIK.

Most Bollywood movies I've seen have been about three hours. Two and a half would be short. Only grand sweeping epics would be as long as five hours.

I just realized that all of the movies I listed here are less than two hours and 45 minutes.

Hmm. Maybe movies before independence weren't five or six hours long after all? Madhur Jaffrey seems to think they were, though. :hmm:

EDIT: Maybe she was just going off of vague memory.

Now I'm thinking about those Ghana movies. Are they for real? They look like parodies to me. But they did make me wanderlust for Twi.
