<mortified>
omg, Istenem... Didn't realize, in the middle of my Hungarian lesson, that "Kívan" had a sexual connotation... So I just said easily "Ha kívansz, beszélhetünk..." without realizing it meant something dirty or erotic... My teacher told me so but now I'm mortified... He said I should say "Ha kívanod", but why is the indefinite version erotic and the definite version all right? :shock: Wow, now I'm so afraid of everything I say... :oops: :blush: Now I have 2 weeks of holidays but I dunno if I dare to talk to him again! :shock:
</mortified>

Oh and before I made this stupid mistake, he explained to me about the "rá" so I'm cancelling my last question 8-)

You remember I once told you that in Hungarian we often do not use words like "me/him/etc" because it tends to be obvious from context.

So when you simply say "kívánsz" what we actually hear is "kívánsz engem".

Thanks Levike!
but then it should be the same with "akarsz", if I say "ha akarsz, beszélhetünk"
Except if your "akar" doesn't really have the same meaning as English "want".
But okay, from now I'll use the definite form in that sort of sentence... If I dare to talk to my tanár again.

PS hogy volt Szent István napja? :wink:

Akkor íme a kérdéseim :oops:

To express "I am free to do something", I found out about "szabad", that must be used as "kell". But it seems not (well, Hungarian #1 said yes, Hungarian #2 said no, so I'm happy I have a Hungarian #3 here who will part them and say who the winner is):

I am free to go: El szabad mennem
She is free to shout: Szabad kiáltásnia
You are free to come: Szabad jönöd

Is that correct? :para:
Köszönöm!

I am free to go: El szabad mennem
She is free to shout: Szabad kiáltania
You are free to come: Szabad jönnöd

hiányozni = to be missing
jönni = to come
kiáltani = to shout (verb)
kiáltás = shouting (noun)

= That was cool! (literally: that was king)

About "azt/őt":

I want a dog :arrow: I want that/it :arrow: akarom azt?
I want a baby :arrow: I want that/it :arrow: akarom őt?
I want a flower :arrow: I want that/it :arrow: akarom azt?
I want butter :arrow: I want that/it :arrow: akarom azt? (or -ból something if partial object?)
I see a plane :arrow: I see that/it :arrow: látom azt?
I see a boy :arrow: I see him :arrow: látom őt?

Just to make sure I understand, indeed, you pointed out one of my questions! :partyhat:
Thanks!

Mind jók. / They're all good.

The only thing you need to remember is to not use personal pronouns with inanimate objects.

But if you consider a dog to be a person or not, it's good either way.

Szia, can someone help me by providing a nice idea?
Next week I have a lunch with my company and they said the theme was "cook something from the place you were in holidays".
Apart from Gulash, paprika csirke and paprikas salata, do you have an idea for a summer Hungarian dish? I can only cook the three of them and they're quite winter dishes. Not sugary if possible :)

Köszönöm! 8-)

Wow, it looks like our "Piperade basquaise" (I love it), maybe it's roughly the same but with paprika instead of our sweet Pepper :) Anyway it looks tasty, I'll try it! :) Can it be eaten cold?

Of course. Although it tastes better warm.
