Someone played a bad joke on your buddy. It says Amreeka al-kafra, which translates as "heretic America". Kafr or kafra means heretic or infidel and is often used as a swear word in Arabic.

It doesn't say "American infidel", that would be كافر أمريكي or كافرة أمريكية. Voron is right, it says "infidel/heretic America".

Literally it means "America the infidel" which means "the infidel America", it's bad using of Arabic, a racist using I think, it makes hate between people, Arabic words are so clear, so it will make clear hate expression, I don't like it.

We can use another expression instead of it like "أمريكا الحره"
Literally it means "America the free" which means "The free America", it means America own its freedom and it's not a slave or somebody control it.
