Sami dialects

Postby Vincent » 2005-04-12, 12:15

well...this post may be a bit out-topic but i'll post it all the same 'cause i think they're strictly related.
I'd like know as much as you can about sami languages, i know they're not kind of finnish dialects but maybe they're very similar, aren't they?
Since there's nothing about them on Unilang (i guess :? ) is there anyone who knows where i can find more infos concerning those languages?? i mean websites or book, too

Try this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sami_language (check also its links at the bottom)

I remember having seen a norwegian version of this article with more links, but I couldn't find it on norwegian wikipedia. :(

Could an admin move this into the Sami forum?

Hmm no, a finn can't understand Sámi a word. They belong to the same language group.. but are far away from each other. (Of course they share some similar words)

Saami is still the closest relative to Finnic family. I see lots of similar stems with Finnish and Estonian. But, yes, it doesn't make it understandable though.
