sentences with adpositions

Postby chung » 2013-02-18, 23:34

Hello,

I've recently put together some sentences involving pre- and postpositions in Northern Saami and while I think that they're grammatical, I am interested in any feedback (including how idiomatic they really are).

Mii báziimet ruoktot galbma dálkki dihte.
Ánne čuožžu uvssa duohkin.
Mus lea leamaš ođđa biila juovllaid rájes.
Mun joavddan golmma beaivvi geahčái.
Leatgo don ruovttus ovdal juovllaid?
Mun lean eret Helssegis.
Duommá jurddaša Gádjá birra.
Mun čuoččun du guoras. Don čuoččut Gádjá guoras.

I'm not a native speaker, so I really can't tell whether they are idiomatic or not. But based on what I've learned and the literature I have they seem fine. I seem to remember geahčái can only be used with a locative meaning, not temporal. So 'after three days'/'in three days time' would be golmma beaivvi geahčen. I also found that bálddas was used in many instances with people and guoras with objects but that doesn't necessarily mean saying, for instanceGádjá guoras is wrong.

Thanks very much Virankannos. I forgot that I had put this request in the sub-forum!
