The flags aren't a big issue. Yserenhart is putting a lot of effort in redesigning and improving Unilang, which I appreciate a lot. I like the new design, how the new forum sections are ordered.
And wanting to decide what text will appear on hover with a flag is a great functionality.

Can we implement a script to update all the old posts in the DB so that they use the new flag tag? Or at least in the Translations subforum? The script could be running in the background for a few days.

Some people ressurected old threads in the Translation subforum just to add flags to all the translated languages, it's a pity that this effort went in vain.

Have you tried clearing your browser history? Or more specifically, the cookies?

Bumping the fact that urls with non-ASCII characters don't work. This makes it quite hard to link to Wikipedia sometimes.

It's a "bug"* that the developers of the forum software refuse to fix at the moment. The only way around it is to convert non-ascii characters to percentage-encoding. This is done by taking the Unicode code point, dropping leading 0s, and adding a % before it.

As an example, if I want to link to the wiki article about Göteborg:

[url]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Göteborg[/url]
won't work, as it has an ö. The Unicode code point for ö is 00F6, converted to work in the url is %F6, giving us this url
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%F6teborg
which will work.

* When the version of the software we use was created, only ascii characters were allowed in URLs, and so allowing non-ascii characters wasn't needed. Since that change, the developers have decided not to implement a new URL parser that would allow non-ascii characters, at least not until a later update. On the bug report for the issue, the advice is what I've given above, and so they consider it a non-issue, so I'm afraid that non-ascii characters won't be usable here for a while.

Not sure if it's just me but whenever I copy-paste a link with non-ASCII characters, they are automatically converted to their UTF-8 encoding, and the links always work that way. It always happens, even when I paste a link into Skype or Word. Someone who is more literate in these things will probably know the answeer but maybe there's something in the browser settings that allows that, I guess? If it works for me, it should/could work others as well (as a side note, I use Windows).

Just an example:
When I copy the link for Göteburg from Wikipedia, it automatically becomes http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%B6teborg when I paste it.

In Firefox, if you copy the URL directly from the address bar, all non-ASCII characters will be converted to ASCII ones. Although the characters are displayed as non-ASCII in the address bar, they are converted to ASCII were copied. (Firefox also hides the “http://” protocol in the address bar, although it shows up when you copy and paste from the address bar.)

So if you’re using Firefox, you can convert to ASCII as follows: (i) enter the non-ASCII URL in the address bar and go to the website, (ii) copy the (non-ASCII displayed) URL from the address bar, (iii) paste the URL anywhere, which will now be in ASCII format.

There's a couple of online tools I've seen, but they're not so useful in my opinion, as they tend to convert everything they possibly can, including things like ':' and '/'.

I've created a simple converter, currently it only does the characters up to u+00FF (Western European languages, I'll add more as time allows), and it seems to be displaying some buggy behaviour with non-Safari browsers (not that it's needed for Firefox or Chrome), so if anyone wants to try it and let me know if it works on your browser then I can try and find the problem.
