So maybe we could just use the Chinese flag and use the Glottolog code qian for the language family?

I mean, it wouldn't really make sense to have a special code in the language list for the entire family (since it's for languages, not entire families), and as long as we use -CN, you get the Chinese flag anyway.

Yeah I never got that; so the way the code works is that you could use a flag code that doesn't exist, but as long as you add a complex code that does, it's alright?

You can write whatever you want and attach a flag code to it at the end with a hyphen, and then you'll get the flag code if you do that. Example (hover over the flag with your mouse to see what I actually wrote ):

Could we add Q'eqchi' to the list? It seems that the language is a national language of Guatemala but also spoken by communities in Belize and a few in Mexico. The code currently used in the Used Songs thread is qeq-GT. The ISO code is kek, but perhaps we could have 2 or 3 varieties - one with the flag of Guatemala, one with Belize, and one with Mexico?

If it's a sufficiently different variety, then why not create a complex code for Afghani Pashto and Pakistani Pashto, complete with different flags?

There is no one variety of Pashto either in Pakistan or in Afghanistan as far as I know; my understanding is there are multiple varieties spoken in both. But I guess we could still do this. It might be best if we first ask Meera what she thinks, too.
