What does it mean?

Postby Zyx » 2006-02-13, 21:41

Nemám doma žiadný dobrý slovník Slovenčiny a chcel by si som opytať o niekoľko slov. Ak iní máju tiež také, nech píšu tu.

I haven't got any good Slovak dictionary at home, so I started this topic to ask about some words. If other people also have any, they may write them down here.

(I know about www.forma.sk, but it not always helps).

OK:

vyhranený - našiel som to slovo w bur.blog.sme.sk

Či "pavúk" je najhoršia známka v škole?

I think "vyranený" means "won", like "a won match/game", but I'm not sure.

And "pavúk" means "spider" (I think :roll: ).

According to my dictionary vyhranený means something like "distinctive/definite" and pavúk is indeed spider.

"pavúk" exists also in my dictionary as a "spider", but I found it as (I suppose) the worst grade at school on a sme.sk blog. That's why I'm asking.

Vyhranený marks a well defined time, in which the action takes place, so indeed it means "definite", but I need the sentence in order to know the right sense.

When the children are in the little school, we do not give them notes, but plugs with animals, the best have a small bee and the worst certainly a spider.

My explanations are sufficient ?

Yes, thanks :). I know that in Polish schools there are also now some "suns", "rains" and "clouds" as grades in lower classes, but it's a very recent change. When I went to school for the first time 10 years ago, the teachers used normal scale 1 (worst) to 6 (best) for everone.

Red= correction
Green= suggestion

The first one is the good text, except that it's "dve" and not "dva", because "známka" is feminine. :wink:
