Migra in Slovak

Postby Migra » 2016-07-21, 11:23

Hi,

There are several Migra families living since generations in Slovakia, mainly in the Tatra region. This leads me to think if the word "migra" has any meaning in Slovak?

Any advice is welcome :-)

I looked into some Slovak dictionary and the only hits I got were in a list of surnames (74 in 1995).

It's more likely that Migra is a Hungarian surname. Slovak doesn't have <g> natively (the old /g/ phoneme has become /ɦ/, compare Slovenian glava with Slovak hlava), so Hungarian could be a guess.
Gløgt er gestsins eyga. (Føroyskt orðafelli)
Wise is the stranger's eye. (Faroese saying)
L'occhio dell'ospite è acuto. (Proverbio faroico)
Hosťovo oko je múdre. (Faerské uslovie)
