Help with name in Slovak

Postby Migra » 2016-07-21, 9:57

Hi!

I am doing a genalogical research. I do not speak Slovak and need help concerning the following question: the name Andrea in Slovakia/Slovak language, is strictly a feminine first name or it can be also used by men?

I am looking for a historical perspective, so any advice about the Andrea first name use today and in the 1800s is welcome.

Andrea is stricly female in Slovak. I guess technically you can have someone called Andreas (probably extremely rare) have the form Andrea in genitive and accusative but that has to be exceedingly rare and has to be a learnèd declension.
Gløgt er gestsins eyga. (Føroyskt orðafelli)
Wise is the stranger's eye. (Faroese saying)
L'occhio dell'ospite è acuto. (Proverbio faroico)
Hosťovo oko je múdre. (Faerské uslovie)
