Conlang songs!

I hope this type of thread wasn't already created, and allowed to be made.

I was extremely curious to hear songs (poems etc) in your languages. What got me curious is the Lexicon thread. All the words, and what I could pronounce/guess, sounded really great and I got to thinking "can they make songs?" and "I wonder what they would sound like". So now I would like to see other people's conlangs into songs!

You can post songs you like translated into your conlang, you could make up songs, you could mix and match songs -- you can do whatever as long as its a form of music or poem etc etc. And if you want, you can translate the song the person above you made, or the person before them. You pick!

Nice thread! I find poetry the best way to really see how a conlang works, mainly because it's a rather short text (generally speaking) and there's a lot of stylistic features like rhythm, rhyme, following a particular metre etc.

So anyway, below's a poem I wrote (it's the national anthem of my country on ConPlanet). There're two versions, the first one is the long version made to fit a particular verse metre and the second version is the short version (in green italics) which is how the poem would normally look.

Stars in the sky shine brightly,

¹ I translated this as "shall" in English because it sounds like a softer form of suggestion than "you should", although the original meaning indicates that the listener has no choice in the suggestion.
² "hanging pride" refers to a flying flag, the idiom in my language dictates that flags "hang", not "fly".
³ "great alps" sounded better in English than "tall mountains", but in Nithalos these are synonymous anyway.

In the alternative script:

Wow, nice songs/poems guys! Ashucky, I really like yours! It very much reminds me of Lord of the Rings, which I mean as a compliment if you don't like LotR? Razlem, I really likes yours as well! Do you happen to know when/if you'll be able to complete it? I'd really be interested in reading it once its finished! Hashi, absolutely brilliant! I really loved the second part. Have I said how much I like your conlanguages guys? Probably not, but I'll say it now! I love your conlangs and wonderful work guys! So many great conlangs!

Unfortunately I haven't sat down to make any songs of my own, because my attempts don't sound like songs and I've never made a poem before.

Here's a poem I wrote in Leafoosish. It's not set to music, I'm afraid. (I'll also probably be going back and editing this post periodically, because orthography, morphosyntax, and that haven't been fully pinned down yet.)

(So that the darkness comes and takes me away;)

1. Most Leafoosish poetry you will find is written in a slightly more archaic and formal version of the language; this is no exception. For this reason, the definite articles, le la, are not written as contracting to l' before vowels as they are in informal registers, and as well, the negative particle ne, which does not exist in informal registers, always precedes negative verbs. These are only two examples.
2. "Rabbit" is a common euphemism for "epilepsy".
3. "They" in this poem refers to the lab workers at the lab where the poet was being held for experiments.
4. The sky on the planet where Leafoosish is spoken is yellow. You can't always tell, though, because of the smog ("clouds") caused by air pollution.
5. This is another euphemistic construction.

This is pretty dark and dreary, unfortunately, but then it's a little window into how badly the Leafoosish have historically been treated by the invaders. Sorry.

It just turns out that my main conlang (žeŋ of course) has a national anthem for some strange reason. You know what; I will post it here. You have to be aware that žeŋ is an extremely Christian country so that explains a lot about this song's lyrics.

A bit prosy, not really a song or poem, but I still think it's at least a little bit poetic... I wrote this a while back when I was RPing with someone to try and flush out the culture behind my language a bit. Wrote one line at the beginning of each post.

Three-year bump!

There are a few poems (and parodies/translations of excerpts of old Indian movie songs!) in Mountain Lion.

OK, now I can't resist posting a parody of a famous old Hindi movie song along with the original in Hindi. I hope that's okay. Of course the Hindi song isn't in a conlang (and actually, I didn't realize this version existed...we heard it in a movie made like twenty years later or something, lol), but I'm just putting it here for context so you know what tune this Mountain Lion parody is supposed to be sung to.

This is a reference to the habit among mountain lions of biting each other's necks. I used to use this song basically to lightly tease my dad. Oh my poor dad! But then again he used to tease me a lot, too.

Oh, also, the words "Grrowl, Rragrra Grrmph" are a rough translation of the original Hindi Bol, Radha, Bol.

**Because that way, his cub is bringing home the bacon venison.
