Round 2 of the Conlangers Broken Translation game

Postby hashi » 2009-12-27, 7:53

[EDIT]: This is Vortex, for the sake of this game I'll be editing the updates on this page.

Hey.

Well I figure it's about time for round two of the game.

Observations from Round One:
Round one was good. However, a few points need to be addressed:
- Text needs to have more variety.
- Longer texts
- Stricter time limits  (The way the FUBAR 4 game is going, we'll be here till Easter. Let's not have that here).
- One chain was a bit much.

Proposals:
- Teams: Perhaps one or two. These could work in a few ways. Like:
- Each team has the same contestants in a different order and different texts
- Each team has different people and the same text
- Longer and more varied text shall be chosen. This time something with adjectives
- Strict time limit to 4 days.
- Perhaps each person will be able to translate twice, perhaps not.
- This time I think we should include irrelevant grammar points in the explanations, just to confuse.

What needs to be done:
- I want to know:
- How many people are interested in playing this round
- Which way you lot want to format the teams
... So please comment with your thoughts.

Tentative Timeline:
- Plans drawn up by January 3rd
- Chains announced January 4th
- Text released (and therefore, start of game): January 6th

I await your comments.

Those Interested thus far:

----------
Note: Each person will only translate once. This is a race so try to be as quick as possible. You will only need one language. And, try to stick to the rules please :)

Team A
- Veqq: his germanic-based conlang
- Struthiomimus: Solresol
- MiloT: Haasvia
- Kuba: Qitsári
- tomii515: Schlaspregisch/作居了語 (sak yi lou ngo)
- Veqq: ENGLISH

Team B
- 邪悪歌: Jónné kjél/hottoo
- Riptide: Jzacdo/proibata
- ILE: nättesch
- Vortex
- Renaçido: Ltāq
- 邪悪歌: ENGLISH

Okay, here's the new order... lexy's gonna be a minute finishing work on his conlang so I don't think he'll be able to finish the text any time soon so I'm just going to pass it on to the next person on team A now and he can get to it later... I'll just fit him in when he's ready.

Team A
- Hashi: nättesch/hottoo
- Struthiomimus: Solresol
- MiloT: Haasvia
- Kuba: Qitsári
- tomii515: Schlaspregisch/作居了語 (sak yi lou ngo)
- Hashi: ENGLISH
- lexy (Veqq) somewhere

Team B
- 邪悪歌: Jónné kjél
- ILE: nättesch
- Riptide: Jzacdo/proibata
- Vortex
- Renaçido: Ltāq
- 邪悪歌: ENGLISH

I guess I'd give this a go, if you let me use Solresol...and don't put after Jaakuuta's programming-like language (Sorry, Jaa, it would hurt my brain too much).

Lol. I don't think anyone wants to go after Jaakuuta's conlang
I'm going to randomise the lists once we have enough contestants, so its fair then :P

3 free spaces left. Once those are filled I'll draw up the teams.

I decided we will have two(maybe four - so that you get two chances) teams of five.

And mine is Kuba, not Kubi. ;) Happens pretty often - he was here earlier, and I didn't know all the user names when I registered. Kuba is short for "Jakub" in Polish, so I think I would choose it again...

so my language kuri was kind of a flop, as it's basically an extension of sala so I'm not going to work on that one anymore. Thus, I'm going to use my Finno-Ugric conlang "jónné kjél" for my other language for the conbtg :P
