Eginhard wrote:Здравейте! Аз сега уча Ббългарски език.

Basically I just started it because a Bulgarian professor at my college is offering a free Bulgarian course. I've had 4 lessons now and so far it's not too hard since we're just starting off and I already know some Russian and Polish. I hope to post here from time to time now to practise and might throw in a few questions when stuff gets trickier. :)

Аз обичам езици.

Здравей!

"Здравей" е обръщение към един човек, а "здравейте" към повече хора (или ако говориш в учтивата форма на "Вие")

"Здравей" is used to refer to a single person, while "здравейте" is used to refer to more people (or if you are referring to someone with the formal "Вие")

Освен това български, английски, руски и т.н. се пишат с малка буква. Това е често срещана грешка и сред българите.

Besides "български", "английски", "руски" etc are written with a small letter. This mistake can often be seen in texts written by natives as well.

Hi folks! I'm having trouble understanding the underlined words below:

Посвещаваме я на падналите, но забравени герои, чиято следа в историята като че ли все повече избледнява. Помнете ги, българи!

We dedicate it to the fallen heroes who have been forgotten and whose footprints in history ...?!!! fade away. Remember them, Bulgarians!

Is there a difference between тъма and тъмнина?

тъмнина is a direct correspondance of darkness, to me it looks like as if тъма is a bit more abstract, lets check what eurodict says
тъма̀
ж., само ед.
1. darkness, dark;
2. (преизподня) hell, inferno; • вечната ~ the bottomless pit.

тъмнина̀
ж., само ед.
1. darkness, dark; obscurity; в ~та in the dark; непрогледна ~ impenetrable darkness, pitch-darkness; в нощната ~ in the dark/gloom of night;
2. прен. (невежество) ignorance, darkness.

Incidentally, I found the word in Eurodict, but the difference was still unclear to me. So, would you say that тъмнинa is more common than тъмa?
And I have another question regarding the construction ама че... meaning what a... or such a... I guess it is only used to convey negative ideas, since I've only found examples like: "ама че време", "ама че колко жалко" or "ама че дяволия". It would sound quite awkward to say something like "ама че красив ден!", wouldn't it?

Yes, тъмнина is definately more common and seems to have a wider semantic range. Тъма might be slightly archaic, since it's not really used in speech, but is by no means unrecognisable by a speaker.
Ама че is a colloquial expression used to add a pejorative or negative notation to the following noun(or rather, noun phrase). You can't say *ама че колко жалко, it's either колко жалко 'how pityful' or ама че жалко 'what a pity', however the latter sounds odd since жалко by definition has a negative meaning, so it might be irony or something.

I know the first of the following phrases is correct, but how about the other two?

Малкият ми брат.
Малък братът ми.
Моят малък брат.

The first and the third are correct. The second isn't.

The first one is used more often than the third. I'm not sure I could explain why, it just often makes the speech more fluent. If you want to stress on that he is YOUR little brother, you'd probably stick to third one though. Kind of like "Аз отидох на кино" and "Отидох на кино". "Аз отидох" is correct but used more rarely.

I'd speculate this is so because моят has more emphasis on the possession and therefore is used only when you want to emphasise on the possession, kind of like the use of personal pronouns in the nominative. Of course, there is the fact that ми is shorter and in general shorter forms are preferred in the speech.

Здравейте.

Преди малко разглеждах някои неща на сайта и попаднах на курса по български. Реших да цъкна и да го прегледам по диагонал и... попаднах на някои доста странни неща.
Линкът е тук: course.php?res=60
По-рано редактирането на тези неща ставаше доста по-лесно. Сега единственият начин да се пише на посочения мейл ли е? Нямам възможност да прегледам цялото, но ето някои неща, които не виждам кой българин би превел така:
1) обтегнати до момента / Present Tense
1) 2nd Настояще напрегнат / 2nd Present Verbs
1) Определена статия / Definite Article

Сякаш някой на места си е играл с гугъл транслейт... иначе не мога да си го обясня.
Сигурно има и други, тези ги извадих набързо. Та... има ли бърз и лесен начин за редакция?

Оу да, спомням си го този курс, като го създавах -хбави времена бяха... Но да, със сигурност заглавията на граматическите категории са преведени доста грешно, но не знам системата как работи и кой може да ги поправи.
