Postby nathanjame » 2018-05-04, 4:26

In English, we use the word eat, but in Vietnamese uses the word "ăn" "hốc" "đớp" "chén" ....

I don't understand.

Thanks for any help...

In English we use the words "eat", "dine", "consume", "ingest", "bolt", "chow down (on)", etc.

The most neutral general term is ăn. Đớp is generally use of animals and is vulgar when applied to humans (cf. German fressen).

I'm not familiar with hốc or chén being used with the meaning "to eat", though the latter can be used to refer to having a(n alcoholic) drink.
