This is my thread for learning Khmer. At the moment, I'm trying to learn the alphabet.

I'm curious: are these languages mutually intelligible?

From what I understand, yes, they are to some extent, but Laos tend to understand Thai much better than Thais understand Lao.

Oh wow, I didn't realize that included more than their awesome dictionary! What do they have there? I see they have some readings, which comes with word-for-word translations or something, right? I'll have to explore it more someday.

The dictionary is the resource I've used the most by far (if you didn't know, it also has lots of different ways to look up words), but there are lots of readings which link to the dictionary (if you click on the little arrows next to each sentence) and include a word-by-word breakdown, audio, etc. Also you can browse the dictionary by category and there are reference tables, bulk lookup where you can enter sentences or paragraphs in Thai and it will translate along with showing you each component's meaning, and a discussion forum (although the forum isn't very active). I'm sure there's stuff there I haven't explored myself either as it's a quite extensive site. Overall it's pretty good!
