Where find sound samples of different Vietnamese dialects?

Postby korn » 2014-02-16, 12:03

Hello,

According to Wikipedia, Vietnam has got the following dialects:
Northern Vietnamese: Hanoi, Haiphong, Red River Delta
North-central Vietnamese: Thanh Hoá, Nghệ An, Hà Tĩnh
Mid-Central Vietnamese : Quảng Bình, Quảng Trị, Huế, Thừa Thiên
South-Central Vietnamese : Đà Nẵng, Quảng Nam, Quảng Ngãi, Phú Yên
Southern Vietnamese: Nha Trang, Bà Rịa–Vũng Tàu, Saigon, Mekong Delta (Miền Tây)

I'd like to hear sound samples of these dialects. Preferably sound samples that speaks the same text by vietnamese people from all walks of life (old, young, man, woman, children).
Please correct all my mistakes, no matter how trivial they may seem to you, also, please help me to improve my phrases. Thank you in advance!

S'il vous plaît, corrigez toutes mes fautes, même si elles vous paraissent insignifiantes. Et aidez-moi, s'il vous plaît, à améliorer ma façon de m'exprimer. Merci d'avance!

Nếu tôi viết chỗ nào chưa đúng, dù là lỗi nhỏ hay nghiêm trọng, thì các bạn hãy sửa lại giúp tôi hoặc góp ý để tôi có thể học hỏi và rút kinh nghiệm. Cám ơn các bạn nhé!

It's not really easy to find sound clips considering little researches on dialects throughout the country compared to well-developed ones for major languages like Chinese, English, French, German, Catalan, etc. Even if Vietnamese is seen as a major language... :/

However, it would be useful if you learn IPA since the Vietnamese Wiktionary has transcriptions for each major dialectal group. Might take them with a grain of salt since they're "board" transcriptions (more general, more vague) opposed to "narrow" (more precise, less vague). Plus, with IPA, you can easily write down the phonological differences better since plain words don't really work well by themselves.

For example, look at a page for chả giò.

Hi korn, if you need videos in all three Vietnamese dialects (North-Central-South), I suggest to you some news TV websites that offer for free news videos.
1) Southern Dialect
Website Đài Truyền Hình TP Hồ Chí Minh (Ho Chi Minh city's official TV website)
http://www.htv.com.vn/truyenhinh/
2) Central Dialect (of which Hue dialect is typical)
Website Đài truyền Thừa Thiên-Huế, also called Kênh Truyền Hình Quốc Gia Khu Vực Băc Miền Trung (Thua Thien Hue's official TV website)
http://vtvhue.vn/
3) Northern dialect (which is designated as "standard")
Website Đài Truyền Hình Việt Nam (Vietnam TV' official website)
http://vtv.vn/
Please point out every grammar mistake I make in any of my texts. Thanks
