Lao - ພາສາລາວ

Seeing as the good old Thai forum is dead now, I figured I'd start a topic for Lao here. (I honestly have no idea why someone started a Lao thread in the Thai forum anyway).

I'll start by posting some online resources:
http://www.seasite.niu.edu/lao/laolangu ... age_fp.htm (the best "textbook" for the serious student, also has a good dictionary as well)

http://fsi-language-courses.org/Content.php?page=Lao (another really good textbook from FSI, however it's only written in transcription and has no audio)

http://www.sealang.net/lao/dictionary.htm (another excellent Lao dictionary)

Unfortunately, there isn't much else that I am aware of online.
Next time I'll go through some book resources. But feel free to post in the mean time on anything Lao or Laos related if you like.

Thanks these links are great. I think someone started it in the Thai forum because Lao and Thai are supposedly very similair. I'm not sure because I never studdied studied either language.

This is a Lao radio station from Radio Free Asia:

As I just posted in the Khmer thread, I've found a new (to me anyway) textbook series for Khmer. It's put together by Frank Smith, a professor as the U of California. He has also come out with a textbook series based on his Khmer textbooks for Lao. You can read the rest at the site. From what samples there are on the site, it looks quite good. It is only in PDF format. I'm thinking of buying the first textbook soon. There are so few good textbooks for Lao as it is that it is an amazing find!

I will warn any potential buyers that it is script heavy. It seems to teach you the script and then just uses the script from then on. Which is awesome.

Wow both of these books seem really interesting. I love Khmer too and always wanted to learn it.
