OK, for Set #2, I think I'll just use the vocabulary from the next two lessons of that book. For Set #3, I think I'll similarly use the vocabulary from the two lessons after that, and the rest will go into Set #4.

Set #1
to look for = หา
to pour = เท
to smear = ทา
to scratch = เกา
to bark = เห่า
to scold for barking = ดุไม่ให้เห่า
to threaten = ขู่
hissing = ฟู่ฟู่

Set #2
monkey = ลิง
to narrate = เล่า
in great trouble = แย่
to pass by = ผ่านมา
to stop off = แวะ
to point = ชี้มือ

I was going to post a song here, too, but I can't seem to find the version I'm looking for anywhere online anymore. :?

Routledge Colloquial is very good and gets quite deep into useful conversational skills; Living Language is also very good, and has the best romanization system of the lot. Either one can be supplemented with Benjawan Poomsan Becker's Thai for Beginners, which I find to be more geared toward teaching reading and writing.

I am not a big fan of the Teach Yourself book for Thai, mainly because of the bizarre, unintuitive romanization system it uses.

Note that all four books mentioned above use different romanization systems.

Like in other Asian languages, does Thai allow the copula to be dropped?

Hey, Koko! I happened to be looking through TY Thai, and it says it can be dropped under certain circumstances!

Speaking of TY Thai, however lacking it may be as a resource, it is still the one I used to start studying Thai and then talking to the lady who cuts my hair and speaks it. But I've clearly forgotten a lot of what I had originally learned from it! So I think I better review that first before trying to review more words from Maanii. Writing down all the words from TY has been taking forever, so I think I'll just consider this a start and move on:

businessman = นักธุรกิจ
to taste = ลองชิม
to reduce = ลด
yellow = สีเหลือง
I think the word for (dark) blue literally means "silver water," so it's สีน้ำเงิน.
brown = สีน้ำตาล
crossroads = สี่แยก
carry/go on/go further = เลยไป
a little bit = นิดหนึ่ง
right here = ตรงนี้

Thanks, Meera! ขอบคุณครับ

Having failed to notice my advice to myself in my last post of this thread(!), I reviewed all the vocabulary I had posted here so far and also learned what อา means. I just found the words for other grandparents, too, courtesy of Wiktionary. I think instead of quizzing myself over earlier vocabulary from TY, I'll just read the dialogs over again. (But I really should do more of this with my other languages, too! It's fun anyway).

So here's Set #4 plus extra vocabulary!
paternal grandmother = ย่า
maternal grandmother = ยาย
paternal grandfather = ปู่
maternal grandfather = ตา (homophone with the word for 'eye'!)
father's younger sibling = อา
mother's younger sibling = น้า
older aunt = ป้า
older uncle = ลุง
to hug = กอด
to guard, look after = เฝ้า
