The problem with the "metal" label in Vietnam is that a lot of bands claim to play metal but in actuality just hard rock (Bức Tường, Ngũ Cung) or hard alternative rock (Rosewood and *cough* Microway *cough*). But the newer generation really seems to know what modern underground metal is supposed to sound like!
But there are things to be desired. I'm still waiting for the Vietnamese equivalents of Tristania, Paradise Lost and ChthoniC.

A Singaporean grindcore band called WormRot did play at Amoured Fish. It's truly extreme, tuneless noise. My hearing was terrible afterward.
