What about Muoi?
It's in Korean, but with Vietnamese coproduction.
It seems to be Ring style horror.

Does anyone know of any Vietnamese movies as in movies produced by Vietnamese, either by Viet Kieu or those in Vietnam?

I've seen a few such as Three Seasons, Owl and Sparrow and The Rebel and I'm looking for more. Thanks!

Hi there,

do you know good Vietnamese movies in Northern dialect? Strangely enough most of the Vietnamese movies are in Southern dialect.....

Regards.

Language is typically Northern, but a few words are out of date. It's based on a famous novel published in 1936. Review of the translation of the novel on LA Times: http://www.sheridanprasso.com/LATimes%20review.htm

All in Southern Vietnamese, except for Lam (prostitute) and Đông (his asshole boyfriend).

meh... someone has merged two Vietnamese movie threads although both threads had different aims. The first is just to mention Vietnamese movies while the second focused on listening comprehension with the help of subtitles. I don't agree with your merging..... :nope:

EDIT: You even merged three different Vietnamese movie threads! In the Northern Vietnamese movies I wanted to know movies in Northern dialect. Now you've merged everything altogether. It's like chaos now. Yeah, they all deal with movies but in different aspects (just to enjoy; Northern dialect; youtube vids with subtitles so people who aren't proficient in Vietnamese can follow). Please undo it!

Korn, I'm having to tidy up the whole place. If two given threads are two similar, then I'm afraid I have to merge them, otherwise the forum would be flooded with empty and pointless threads. (Just look at the Thai forum - what a painful mess.) Try not to create too many new and barely distinguishable ones.

This forum is, by nature, very quiet. People won't come and read just because you feel the need to make a new thread for each and every question.

:( alright..... how are you, by the way. You've told me you wanted to study in Australia. Did it work out for you?

I'm doing reasonably well, thanks! How are you?

Yes, I went to Sydney to get my degree, then I came back to Vietnam. That was two years ago. I'll never forget Australia, even though I only saw a very small part of it.

@Jack: I knew you would post Hot Boy Nổi Loạn, haw haw haw.

One of the most useless degrees on Earth - (general) Business Administration.

why would you say that? It can't be that bad when you're living in Vietnam's most economically most powerful city having a Business Administration degree from an Australian college......... or it's your irony that's speaking to me and I don't get it..... :|

NO SHIT. D:

I'm having to tidy up the whole place.

If you don't mind... I have to* Sorry, it just sounds way off to use the progressive aspect with "have to" in any case I could think of. ;p

Maybe it's just me but have you recognized this:

Most Southern TV series are about follow-your-heart-themes (don't marry the rich guy when you're in love with the poor guy; you can achieve everything as long you believe you can), while most Northern TV series are about follow-your-head-themes (even though that's your dream it doesn't necessary become reality; if you want to achieve something in life, merely wishing to get it isn't enough you've got to put out effort and hard work).

Furthermore the underlying tone in Southern TV-series are more positive and funnier (there's always a funny sidekick included) while the Northern ones are more pessimistic and more serious (somehow someone is about to die or has an serious illness/ drug addiction or the like throughout the series).

I can't say all TV series are like that but Southern and Northern TV series put emphasize on completely contrary approaches when it comes to topics like "reaching goals in life (may it personal- or job-related)".

But that's just my impression, since I only watched 6 Vietnamese TV-series (3 Northern series and 3 Southern series) so far and I think I have recognized a tendency. Do you share the same or do you have a completely different impression on Vietnamese TV-series?
