"Mailesh" in Tajik

Postby razqandi » 2015-09-13, 21:13

What does "Mailesh" mean in Tajik? Look at this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvI8nMWtenE. I searched the web but several different answers made me completely confused.

Please cite your sources and also transliterate this word into Cyrillic script.

I'm a native speaker of Iranian Persian, so feel free to respond in/switch to Persian if it's easier to explain the exact meaning of that word in Persian. Thank you in advance.

Bâ dorud,

I watched the video, and listening to the lyrics, I can only think مايلش is the name of the (man) uncaring lover, in the song.

I'm sure you have worked out this yourself, so maybe it's not as simple as that.

Thank you Limagne.

Do you know about its etymology? Does it have anything to do with Arabic "میل" (desire/inclination)? What about Persian third-person possessive pronoun "ش" (his/her)? Can one say that "Mailesh" literally means "his/her desire"? If so, Why don't Tajiks simply (and logically) say "Mailet" meaning (your desire / be as you wish)?

Do you know how it is written in Cyrillic script? Do you know any decent dictionary which I can look up Tajik words? Of course, I'm going to learn Cyrillic alphabet!

майлаш seems to be the correct spelling, at least it is the one used in the Tajik - French dictionary that I have.

There is also an equivalent in Uzbek: mayli, which is constructed in the very same fashion (namely, mayl + 3rd person possessive suffix).

I haven't found any indication regarding the etymology of that word, though.

I am native Uzbek speaker.

"майли" might be equivalent to "майлаш".

I would translate it "I agree", "let it be .."
