Re: Hindi/Urdu Online Resources - reliable translators and agencies

Postby renukamhatre » 2015-08-30, 2:45

I think online translation sucks as machines just don't understand various meanings of a word and it also fails to understand difference of construction of sentence in different languages. I have tried online translation few times and it has always given me too much pain.

That;s why I always rely upon good translators, and a reliable translation agency. I have met few really good freelance translators in my career. Salim Shah, Protima Daas, Hemlata Singh are few of them. Among agencies, I have found Mangrol Multimedia the best.

I believe that you all have met such translators and found good agencies. I would like to know about them so that we can keep sharing ideas and resources.

Cheers

Renuka

Hindi Radio from Fiji :

Not sure if this is in Hindi 24/7 because I've only been listening for like 20 minitutes but its a good mix of talk and music so far.

دوستو، میں نے ایک ایپلکیشن ملی جو انٹرنیٹ کے بروزر پر خود بخود نسخ کے بجاۓ نستعلیق دکھاتی ہے۔ اس کے ساتھ اردو پڑھنی زیادہ آسان ہے۔

Hey guys, I found an application that automatically shows Nastaleeq instead of Naskh in your internet browser. Makes it much easier to read Urdu!

Hello everyone. I used to use a combination of ijunoon's dictionary and Google Translate, but I've found that Oxford's online Urdu-English (unfortunately only in this direction) dictionary much more effective. The great thing about it is that it includes lots of phrases like اعداد و شمار and phrasal verbs like قرار دینا. It also gives several meanings and the gender of nouns, which was missing before. Another good thing is that when you type in a word suggestions show up, so when you start typing ذرائع (means) it'll show you the suggestions ذرائعِ ابلا‏غ (media) and ذرائعِ آمدورفت (means of transportation) so you can expand your vocabulary even further with phrases and compound words. It's helped me a lot in understanding Urdu texts.

Thanks, Saim Bhai! I should probably true using that myself.

All I have to contribute here is this, this, and maybe this and these videos for learning Hindi through street conversations (though where Anglicization was deliberately avoided to some extent, even though there are still some English words in it anyway):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RINNO-dkha0
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3Gb87ID7_w
I would also recommend this video even though it's not all in Hindi at all because it's pretty good IMO for practicing Hindi/Urdu listening comprehension as well:

I tried to download it, but it didn't work. :| I tried downloading some fonts earlier, I think, but that didn't really seem to work, either. Oh, well.
